an exciting experience – I was a bit skeptical of hosting my girlfriend's birthday dinner at Spice Street, having read some of the reviews posted, however I decided to try it out anyway, at her request. There were six in our group, and we were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time (not too bad for a Friday night). The ambiance was amazing--between the music and the exotic decor, there is an energy I haven't found anywhere else. Our waited found us right away and answered our questions about some of the dishes, whi... read more

Finally some SPICE in Chapel Hill – It boggles my mind that some of the reviews on this restaurant are so myopic. Words fail to do the decor of this establishment adequate justice. The menu offers an opportunity for the adventurous/ undecided customer to dine tapas style; satisfying various intrigues one's palate may desire. Decadence emanates from everything from the shrimp bisque to the beef tangine. The bar is perfect for everyone from business executives to college students. Very few restaurants in this area offer so many ... read more

changes needed – Interesting but confusing experience.....the a la carte idea is just not going to fly. People want their entree to come with a side or two, they don't want to have to think about what they want with their meat. Secondly, the "family style" option is confusing, however we were a very large party and the waiter really pushed it on us so that we would not to have to wait for individual orders. When people go out to dine, they want to order what they want. Especially if it's a first time experience. Finally, our... read more

An ordeal! – If only the menu, chefs and service were as good as the interior design... Had 7:15 reservation, were forgotten, seated at 8:15 with 3 adjacent empty tables! Appetizers were prompt, we waited another HOUR for the kitchen to send out dinner. The spring rolls were good, but pricey. Shrimp bisque was flavorful, but had shell shards. Our other soup order was lost in order limbo. The entrees were sadly bland. Inexplicably, the red vegetable in the duck stir fry was not chiles but sun dried tomato! Our kingdom for spi... read more

a la carte – If you want rice with your sweet and sour duck or veggies with your fish, you have to order it. The sweet and sour duck should be renamed. We weren't sure what the sauce was--guesses ranged from hoisin to plum sauce--but sweet and sour it was not. It consisted of pieces of duck, long noodles, and mango, which is not what one expects from sweet and sour. The first bite of beef tangine---a big pot of stewed meat with 1/2 cup of rice on the side---was tasty, but the combination of grease and spice soon overwhelmed ... read more

Great experience – Read reviews here before going and had some concerns, all unwarrented. This was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences the Girl's Night Out group has had. Our waiter was very competent, charming and prompt. My filet was cooked perfectly as was my sister's pork. My Mom had the best scallops she's ever had. I can see on weekends how the service may be slow but knowing George, he'll get all the kinks out soon.

Don't Bother! – What a waste! It is beautiful BUT... They lost our reservation. We had to wait almost an hour for our entrees. The waiter never offered an explanation to WHY it took so long, otherwise he was friendly enough. The fish and the steak were very overcooked. The kitchen staff is offended at the request for salt and pepper. Total cost for four with drinks = $207 I think this a place people will go to ONCE to check it out, but it offers no reason to return.

don't go for lunch – Had lunch there today and it was bad. My flat bread sandwich was very very salty and not good. My wife had a cabbage stuffed with meat and rice which she said was ok. It was also overpriced for what you get.
