Established in 1978, Shank's Mare Outfitters is located in an historic 1880's General store building on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Our 10 retail rooms feature clothing and gear for kayaking, walking and hiking, and cross country skiing and snowshoeing. A wide range of outdoor accessories compliments our great selection of products in a truly unique Outfitters Shop. We also offer a full calender of lessons, trips, tours, kids camps, and field trips.

We knew what kayak we wanted to get, but needed help with the rest. Amazing, friendly, knowledgeable team at SMO! Will definitely be back! If you’re looking to get new gear or upgrade your gear, we highly recommend a visit to SMO.
I am so glad I chose Shank's Mare for the purchase of my first kayak! Not only is the view from the front steps amazing, but the staff is very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Great place for Kayaking and paddle Boarding. Also has a nice store with lots or outdoor apparel and gear.
We just returned from a great paddle/ hike adventure with these fine people. We had lots of laughs and an amazing excellent getaway to Cove Point Lighthouse. It was also fun to see the kayaks and gear, old and new, from Shank's Mare!
