History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Pleasant Hill! The room was great and the food was terrific. Everyone was so kind and happy. Truly a great place to once again enjoy a simpler way of life!! We are already planning our next trip!!
I toured it years ago and it has history and scenery that is unique to the area. Well worth visiting.
Had a wonderful time yesterday even with the rain. A must see if you are in the area & are curious about this interesting group. Thank you to Maggie, Kendall & Sarah for your interesting information. Your passion flowed with your presentations.
Food, service, and atmosphere made a family gathering tonight an outstanding experience. Always great!!
Chef Amber and team are second to none!! Every dish and dining experience we have had in the past 6 months have been outstanding!! And, last week topped it all when Chef Amber took it upon herself to create a beautiful and delicious birthday surprise for a very special lady! We were so impressed and grateful!! Keep up the excellent work! We know it is a labor of love!

I had no idea of what to expect from Kentucky other then awesome fried chicken and bourbon, but what we experienced was so interesting and beautiful that we have to share with you our latest encounters! ( soon ) The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, named a top hidden travel destination by BBC News, is located within a half hour ride from LEX airport and was our first destination. When we arrived at the compound, we immediately felt a sense of calm as the grounds are wide open, beautifully maintained and peaceful. Herein lay ... read more
My family enjoyed very much. I especially loved the lecture and music session with Holly. She provided a wonderful summation of Shaker church music. It was quite soul-enriching.
Huge disappointment. I hadn't been in about 20 years and it used to be a fantastic living history museum...not anymore. Not worth the $14 ticket to walk around without anyone in period dress demonstrating and speaking the history. Again very disappointing.
