History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

This is a beautiful spot with loads of history! Please check it out if you are in the area! Staff is friendly and have lots of knowledge!
Shaker Village has become one of my favorite places to visit in the state. There is great lodging that feels as cozy as home, excellent dining, music, the outdoors, and a multitude of shared use trails to explore. This is the perfect close to home get away for me!
So interesting! The restaurant is awesome! The history is fascinating! Loved putting the ducks in a safe location for the night! Five Stars!
Have visited many times as a youth and an adult. Now I bring my own children here to learn more about the Quaker heritage in Kentucky.
Wonderful staff. Can’t beat the quiet.
Shaker Village is peaceful, beautiful, serene. The food at the sit-down Trustees Table restaurant is fantastically flavorful, and the carry out sandwiches and salads at the little yellow gift shop make picnicking or an extended stay with kids easier. The daily “Today” activities and tours are interesting, and just the right amount of time. The hay ride is worth the little extra fee! It’s really a wagon tour of the entire property, including out to the meadows of the preserve, it was a wonderful highlight.
One of the most kind pieces of place one could hope to experience. A timeless simple gift, Shakertown is priceless.
Love this place! It’s like going back in time, so peaceful!
Oh, my gosh, where to start?? The info tours were amazing. From the historic village tour, the music and worship to the farm, each were so full of information! The Inn is a great place to stay as well as to dine. Scenic area that is very laid back and restful.
