History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

Shaker Village Another great place to take relatives when they visit. We took my inlaws and spent the day checking ou the old structures and talking to the crafts people who are on site making brooms, candles quilts etc. There is a horse drawn wagon ride available to see the grounds without having to walk which was great for the older people in our group and the wagon "driver" has a lot of information to share about the grounds as well as the guides inside the buildings. You can't leave without visiting the gift shop's which... read more
pleasant hill My family went for a day trip to Shaker Village. We first went to visit the exhibits which takes a few hours to see all. Then we went to visit the craft stores which both offered some very unique Shaker reproductions of furniture, and gifts. They have even won awards for this crafts. After our shopping we decided to a little trail blazing. So we went to check out some of the trails so that we can come back at a later time for a hike. This is a beautiful and unique trip for the family to enjoy.
Beautiful peaceful place with a great history. Lodging and restaurant were great!
Had a wonderful time there this weekend. Everyone was so nice and answered our questions. The food was delicious at The Trustees Table. Our overnight accommodations were the best! Definitely will be back!
I recommend you take a night hike. we had Billy as our guide and he was awesome. we learned about the Village, nature, the frog story is the best, and he tought us some astrology. I wish I had a pen and paper so I could take notes. I could not wait to get home and share my experience with my husband.
Such a great place to spend the day. Beautiful setting and lots of room to roam. The history of Shakertown is so interesting to learn and the staff go out of their way to accommodate.
Been going there since the 80's, new chef and management has changed several old traditions as well as the menu...bring back the old days!
The food here is on par with any restaurant in Louisville or Lexington. The entire place is peaceful and calm. It is truly my happy place.
very peaceful and the food is great!
