About this business

History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

I recently hosted an event at Shaker Village with 30 attendees in September 2017. We spent 2.5 days there-- and Shaker Village catered a reception plus 6 additional meals! The feedback from my attendees was wonderful. They absolutely loved the food, and I heard them gushing about it all weekend. Their dietary needs were well-accommodated (we had quite a few vegan and gluten-free). The entrees, vegetable sides, and desserts were all delicious! It's not easy to please 30 people for 7 meals in a row, but Shaker Village pulled i... read more

The site is beautiful and has a relaxing atmosphere, however DO NOT EAT HERE, particularly if you have allergies. The chicken salad had bones in it, a friend with an allergy has spent the last day and a half with side effects because the cross contaminated her food. We are attending a weekend long event and she is unwilling to risk any more of the food any they have refused to refund her for the unbeaten meals. While I will come back to other events at this site, there is no chance that I will ever pay for any food from them... read more

This was our 3rd visit. Loved the first 2 visits, not so much this time. Everything has changed!!! There was only 1 demonstration (church) , which was great! There used to be sheep shearing, dying, broom making ... There were a lot of empty buildings and terribly in need of repair. In the past we would spend 4-5 hrs walking around and talking with the docents. Now, we were done in 2 hrs. Thankfully we were able to move our lunch reservations so we could eat lunch earlier then planned
