History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

I don't know how there are negative reviews! This place is wonderful from the grounds to the food to the accomodations. It was a beautiful weekend. The history and the architecture was so interesting and everything was very affordable. The hiking is wonderful also. Definitely going back!
For years Shaker Village has been a great place to take an "out of towner" for a great meal. Took a friend to lunch today and was extremely disappointed. Hands down, the worst hot brown I have ever tasted anywhere. The shaker lemon pie that had been a favorite for over 40 years was not up to previous standards. Do not waste your time or money. It simply doesn't make the grade anymore. So sad.
Just drove 45 minutes to go on the 4pm Riverboat. I called at 2pm to make sure it was running, and was told yes and there was availability. We arrived at 3:20pm and were told it was sold out since 1pm. My dad is visiting from PA and we were so looking forward to taking the boat ride. My kids are extremely disappointed because this is the second time this has happened to us. The girl behind the counter offered no apology. Horrible customer service. Will not be back.
My family had a fantastic stay in Room 183 of West Family Dwelling. Food was great, service was nice, hiking down River Road Trail to see High Bridge was fun, grounds were lovely, buildings and history interesting....what more is there?
Only gave it one star because it wouldn't allow for me to give it zero stars. Terrible customer service!
An unmatched cultural landscape with so much to do: tour, hike, dine, boat, drink, spend a night or two. Be.
