History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

Fascinating...it was great to learn about the Shakers and also wonderful seeing their superb craftsmanship in furniture, architecture, textiles and basket weaving.
Room To Bloom Preschool had such a fun time learning about bees and pollination, the Wooly Mammoth and seeing the precious animals!! Thank you so much! One of my favorite places to visit
Ancient Spruces, Cedars and dogwood in full bloom, history galore in the well preserved buildings and top notch food at the old world restaurant! A MUST visit when staying (or living) in Kentucky!
