History Established in 1961. After the Shakers were gone, the buildings and property passed into private hands. For the next 37 years, the buildings changed hands many times and the furnishings were dispersed. In early 1961, a ground swell of interest in saving these historic structures brought on the formation of an organization to acquire and restore them. That same year, Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., was formed as a nonprofit, educational corporation.

Shaker Village is a very special place for me. It has captured my soul and my imagination and has greatly influenced my art. I cherish my times spent there, and the friendships that have been made with past and present employees. When I enter the grounds, I’m coming home.
Thank you to Shaker Village for the overnight stay and breakfast on New Year’s Day. We had a peaceful and serene New Years!
I visited the village many years ago and really enjoyed it. However, today I took a friend who had never been there before, and we left with him knowing practically nothing about Shakers. REALLY missed having period dressed employees and demonstrations. Not much fun walking around when most of the buildings are now inaccessible unless you are staying there. Waste of time and money when there is no one to answer questions and the accessible buildings are virtually empty. I just felt sad.😞
This is a peaceful and charming step back into history. The food has always been delicious and plentiful at the restaurant on site.
Loved that place. Haven’t been there since 2009, but went there before with my parents in the 90’s I can never get to much of that place. My wife and I both love that place very much!
The events are top notch! I love all of the space to spread out; the kids can run and play to their hearts desire. The artists that call Shaker Village home always have something new to show. The farm animals and garden are fun to visit. Just love it all around!
Been there multiple times. Very endearing place. Want to go back soon!
Everyone is so kind and helpful. There is so much to do, every time I go I find something new. Dining at the Trustee House is amazing.
Very Family Friendly Place!!
