Cool Name, Bad Restaurant – Waited 15 Minutes to be greeted at our table for lunch and place a drink order. Our table was dirty, cramped and sticky. Food took over 30 minutes to come to the table and the order was incorrect. I had Sushi, she had Chicken Terriyaki. My Sushi was way too cold, had a poor presentation and was tasteless. My Yellowtail was crunchy, how can Yellowtail be crunchy? The salad and ginger dressing was simply Iceberg Lettuce and one teaspoon of dressing. Her dish was boring and came with over cooked vegt... read more

Nice place, bad rice – ShabaShabu has a great vibe, nice decor, a trendy hot spot. Service was just ok, I don't think our waiter smiled once. Food was great, I tried the Thai and the Sushi and all was good with the exception of the rice being sticky and overcooked and the white wine being way overchilled giving it a resemblance to (badly)flavored water. The head chef did a round of the tables which was nice. I would go here again mostly for the ambience, but will order a cocktail next time and skip the wine.

What happened to ShabaShabu? – While the food is still stellar, I am afraid to see what the kitchen looks like if it is anywhere near to the cleanliness of the restaurant. It truly needs a make-over or at least some serious touching-up! This has always been a favorite spot of mine since moving to Raleigh, however they really need to do something with the cleanliness. My husband refuses to go there now.

Overrated – The service was mediocre--after being seated we waited about 10-15 minutes for the waiter to take our food order. Then we discovered we were on the wrong side of the restaurant (we made reservations for Thai! Why did they seat us on the Japanese side?--watch that if you're a first timer). In comparison to other restaurants in general, it took a loooong time for the food to come. The best thing about this place is the ambience. It's hip, modern, and they play house music. Visit Shabashabu if you want to pay for at... read more

Tom Kha Gai to Die For... – The most AWESOME Tom Kha Gai soup I've ever had. Shaba Shabu is now a regular stop whenever I'm in town.

Baba and Bubu – The name of the restaurant comes from Thai flower (Shaba) and Japanese food (Shabu). However, I frankly give the new name to them as BabaBubu. Why? The taste for both Thai food and Japanese food are the worst ever. Japanese plates was too cold and not Japanese rice and extremely sweet as well as not authentic. Thai food was like made by chef who is not Thai. I can make better by just reading from Thai recipe book eventhough I don't know how to cook. I eat out everyday and every meals. That's why I dare to giv... read more

You should shabashabu too. – Raleigh has needed a place like this. Simply put: The food is as good as the interior decor, exquisite. Hot, trendy and beautiful this restaurant is my group's new favorite place for Saturday night out. If you haven't gone, go. Eat. Drink. Shabashabu rocks. That's it.

great place for a night out – i love the 2 huge screens in the bar. my friends and i go there a lot and get to know people there. they are very nice. the food is delicious. true that you can get the same food in waraji, or sushi thai, but food there comes in bigger portions and they are nicely decorated. and you have them in the coolest atmostphere. thank you for having this place Charles!
