Voted the best sushi restaurant by metro magazine...are you serious??? – I visited this place a couple of weeks ago and just because of the fact that they won the best sushi joint by metro magazine I decided to give it another try. I don't understand how the voting system works but there must have been a mistake.. First of all, this place has terrible kitchen food...and the sushi...mediocre at best...and that's me being generous. Am I missing something here? I understand Waraji and Mura among the top...but how did this place... read more
Expensive and not worth it. – Unlike other poor reviews, my waiter did a good job and I have no complaints about the service. I do agree with prior reviews that stated this was not a good restaurant to bring children to. There was no kids menu and one partially broken high chair. The restaurant's decor is attractive and the bar looks very "happening". My complaint is the food. Our food was overpriced and can be described as mediocre at best. The appetizer we ordered tasted strongly of burned sesame oil. The entrees were blan... read more
FAKE Bluefin – I just recently moved to Raleigh in the beginning of January. Shaba Shabu is the first sushi restaurant I've tried in the area. I like the atmosphere & large sushi selection, and was excited to see Bluefin Tuna on special one night. I ordered the Spicy Bluefin and Salmon Crunch Roll. The Salmon Crunch Roll is awesome, however, the Bluefin was NOT bluefin! It was regular tuna. I think anyone who has had it once would be sure to recognize the difference. The tuna was bright red (like normal) and had the same tex... read more
Average food and service – I visited this restaurant with friends for the first time last Friday night. I wasn't terribly impressed. Here are my observations: The restaurant is in a strip mall -- not the classiest of locations. The service was okay. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with the sushi menu; however, it took forever for the food to arrive and one of my friends had to repeatedly request a refill on his drink. The food overall was good. We ordered the sushi and sashimi combination for two, with two additiona... read more
Bad Sushi. – One of the worst sushi joints in town. I really really do not recommend this place at all. Not much else to say really... Oh...the service was horrible as well.....yeah...this one was a simple review.
Simple decor, fabulous food! – I've been to Shaba Shabu many times and have always been impressed with the sushi. I've yet to have the thai food, so I can't comment on that. The service has been good and bad, but for the most part good. Last night, we went there for girl's night out. We had a party of 14. Our waiter was awesome! He did our checks by name so that if we wanted to get up and move around from seat to seat we could without him having any issues with the checks. He memorized my name and my drink order, so I was pr... read more
Only at Lunch – Althought I have only eaten there for lunch I have to say it was wonderful. I know people from other reviews say they had horrible waits during the evening service. I never have had that problem. I have loved everything I have had there to eat. It was empty so service was fine for me. I am a thai lover and this place was fresh and light for my need and taste. A friend loves the sushi lunch special. She raved about the price and flavor of the food. I would try it for lunch and see if it is any better.
Avoid at all costs! – My husband and I went to this restaurant a few months ago w/ another couple on a week night. The place was a ghost town and 3 or 4 servers were standing around. When we arrived, our friends were already there. The already ordered drinks at the bar and it took 20 minutes to get them. The hostess seated us and as we were walking in, another couple stopped us and told us the service was bad and we shouldn't bother. We waited for 15 minutes while servers stood there looking at us, despite us requesting some... read more
Good sushi...bad bad bad bad place to bring kids – I read all about this restaurant before we went. We had a party for my brother's birthday there (party of 18) and they provided us a private room...nice job. I'll just get the bad stuff out of the way. This next part is just me...they made us take off our shoes to eat in this private room. I have a thing about taking walking around getting my feet dirty and then putting dirty feet into my shoes. It's just one of my things. We all had to sit around this table shoe-less but ou... read more
