One of Chinatown's most venerable and beloved restaurants, serving authentic Chinese cuisine since 1980. – In Short The Duck House's clientele is varied: young and old, couples and families, Chinese and non-Chinese. Sang Kee does its part to blast away the stereotypical Chinese fare. Its varied menu contains enough familiar items for the unadventurous, and enough exotic choices for the bold. Believe the hype about its renowned Peking duck: both crispy and juicy enough to qualify as a real treat.
SANG KEE N. 9th: Believe the Hype – Basically, here is found the best Chinese food I've found in either NYC or Philadelphia. I've been to Sang Kee several times, and have yet to be disappointed. The unbelievably juicy Peking duck and intensely flavorful BBQ spare ribs remain on a level of taste which has remained unapproached by even the most expensive Chinese restaurants. Yes, the place is lacking in ambience, and yes, the location is more than cumbersome to approach. However, I go to restaurants to eat, not to be serenaded... read more
Sang Kee in Wynnewood is a LEMON – The decor is very chic and modern unlike the traditonal chinese restaurant decor but that's about the highlight of the place. It has the acoustics of a gym, the t.v. screens imbedded at the eating counter and hanging off the corners of the ceiling flash CNN non-stop like an airport. The food is mediocre and if you are hoping for the generous portions chinese restaurants are known for, you will be sorely disappointed. Take the time to go to Chinatown. Worst of all is the service. If you hope... read more
Mixed reviews from a mixed menu – I've probably been here a dozen times. They do a couple things very well--the house special dinners for 2 or 4, the duck (awesome peking duck), their roast pork, and the noodle soup. The rest of the menu is pretty mixed. If you're looking for chicken and mixed vegetables or general tso's chicken, you should probably go somewhere else as this place doesn't do them particularly differently than any corner chinese shop. If you won't order duck because "You don't know if you'd like it", this pla... read more
Is this place overrated? just a tad. im not saying it's the best food nor am i saying it's the worst food. duck was bland, but hey! maybe it was just that day. i dunno. i wouldn't suggest this place if someone were to ask me where to get duck in chinatown philly. so kudos for those who thinks this is best chinese food in philly (i think each places serve their specialty-i don't see anything they have here that would be a specialty)-nuff said.
kidding me? – the food was average. i really don't know what the rave is all about. Some of the dishes taste like the local chinese restaurant around the corner. wonton skin was falling apart and the duck wasn't even the best. i don't think it's even top 5 in PHILLY!
u kiddin' me? – after reading all the reviews online about this place...one word: Overrated! The duck was even as good as ppl claimed it to be. I'll give them credit for some of the noodles dishes and their average wontons...but that's where i stopped. ick.
Fantastic food – Truth be told I was at the suburban location. It was very impressive. Everything I had, including the Peking duck was great. The beef chow fun was even better. Nice service and fair prices only add to my reasons to come back.
Best Duck in Chinatown – The best AUTHENTIC Chinese food available in Philadelphia. I know friends who come in from NYC to visit this restaurant because of the great things they've heard and the food keeps them coming back. You start to wonder how a little restaurant in the corner of Chinatown is able to attract so many customers--it's the amazing food and the low prices. SangKee's will definitely leave you feeling satisfied!
