Some of the city's best inexpensive pasta can be had at this quintessential neighborhood Italian joint. – The Scene Flickering candles, decorative wine bottles and 13 tables with red tablecloths offer a warm, welcome retreat in a neighborhood built on hip and cool. Couples share plates of pasta on romantic, affordable dates while seasoned servers negotiate the perpetually crowded dining room. The Food The menu is unpretentious, filled with longtime favorites such as heavenly penne with roasted red-pepper pesto, eggplant parm... read more
It makes me sad – We really want to like this place but after two trips I can't say I am impressed. The first trip the food was pretty ehh. The last time the food was ok but we got over charged on the bill 2 pasta dishes one salad and a glass of wine for $60. Sadly I didnt catch it till we got home. For that price we could definatly go someplace with truly good italian food. We live down the street and i've heard such great things but I have yet to have anything but mediocre food.
ok, but not spectacular – place was decent and I'd probably return if others wanted to, but it was below average in taste of food and was crowded/loud. not romantic, but probably good for casual dinner. was a little disappointed in the place actually, as it came highly recommended.
Good Food, Good Price – This food gets the job done and you don't have to spend a lot to have a good meal. The most refreshing aspect is that the portions are regular-sized instead of super-sized. I've never seen children there either. Overall it's a nice neighborhood restaurant with affordable prices and consistently tasty food.
Best Italian ever - definitely worth the wait! – My husband & I found this place while we were going to a show at the Paramount. We got there right when it opened but had a wonderful experience and have gone back several times. The food is wonderful and very reasonable for Italian. My husband absolutely hates to wait in lines but will for this restaurant. If you go after 6 pm you can expect an hour wait. We just go next door to the Baltic Room and get drinks beforehand. I have always had great experiences here and all the fo... read more
Worth a 25mi drive and an hour wait! – Yes, the wait is long (get a bottle of wine at the bar while you wait!); yes, it is crowded. BUT it is the best affordable Italian restaurant in Seattle. The menu is short but wonderful! Personal favorites include their bread, Ceasar salad and Minestrone soup. For your entree try Chicken/Veal Milanese or Lasagna. Spaghetti, yet simple, is delicious. Desert menu could be improved (last night they only had one item), but if Tiramisu is available, it's a good way to finish your meal with s... read more
Worth the wait? – Hmmmm.....is it really worth the wait to have moderate food with not so friendly service? Apparently a lot of people think so, but you might want to consider going someplace else.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Seattle – I've been to many Italian restaurants and I haven't found anything that has surpassed Machiavelli. Great food, good prices, and the food comes quickly. Try to go there during the non-rush hour so you don't have to wait forever. Middle of the week is best, avoid Fridays and Saturdays or get there before 6pm. One time I was with a party of 3, and it took 2 hours to get a table. At least the host didn't forget about us and brought us some appetizers, and later offered us dessert ... read more
Truly one of the best – Yes, on a busy night, you have to wait. They don't take reservations and won't seat you until your entire party is present. BUT IT'S WORTH IT! The food is delish... every meal I've ever ordered was wonderful. I always suggest this place to people looking for a "really good" restaurant. The service is always good and while it's hard to accomodate a larger group in the tiny place, they're always willing to do it and make us comfortable. It's romantice. The best part? VERY affordable!
