Very Good, Affordable, Italian In The City – On the corner of Melrose and Pine, there is a restaurant. As you approach the restaurant, you will see a full dining room and possibly a small crowd waiting to get in. There is also a small bar in which, if you score a seat, you should feel quite lucky. It is small, painted in warm colors, romantic despite concrete floors. Candlelight flickers, tiny tables for two dominate the small dining room. A plate of pasta will set you back $9.75 (I recommend the penne with red pepper pesto ... read more

Not horrible. – I've been waiting to go here for a while. I've heard mixed reviews but lately my friend told me it tasted like the food in Rome. Convinced we went, and if the this is like the food in Rome, I'm not sure I want to go there. The food wasn't bad, just not very good. The service was ok, but we had three waiters/waitresses and when I asked what was good our waitress replied "all of it". I wouldn't recommend eating here, but wouldn't tell people not to go.

Great food, long wait. – This place is really good and the quality of the food is wonderful. I got the gnocchi with alfredo sauce and I have never had an alfredo sauce in a restaurant that I found comparable to my family's cooking. Needless to say, it was very authentic tasting and the gnocchi was done to perfection. It's small and romantic, but it is also very crowded. I sat in a small two-person table that overlooked the street and felt very romantic and private, despite the lack of room. I would avoid weekends and dinner ... read more

well worth the wait!!! – GREAT, GREAT, GREAT...... Read that we should go after or before peak hours so we strolled over around 9:30 ( short walk from downtown) still had to wait an hour in an overly crowded bar, which to me is a good thing:)....We finally got seated around 10:45 and did not finish till well past closing and not once did we feel rushed. Menu was not too small not too big and had some traditional Italian-American food. We had the Gnocchi and Carbonara, one word INCREDIBLE!!!! Portions were not too big, so if ... read more

The best affordable Italian in Seattle – I've been visiting for years, and it's a great place! I suggest going early so you can have the place (mostly) to yourself! Pros: - Good, affordable Italian - Nice atmosphere - Competent wait staff Cons: - Very busy during peak times (visit off peak!) - Tables are a tad small due to the limited size of the resaurant

The World's Best Puttanesca--with Personality! – I've been eating at Machiavelli for 20 years or so (!) and have never been disappointed. (A few years ago, I had one entree that was not up to par but the rest of the meal was typically, great.) The food is excellent as are the prices. Their puttanesca may be the best I've had. The wine list is always interesting and moderately priced. The ambience is that of a charming neighborhood restaurant you might find in NYC's SOHO area and with one of the best people-watching locations... read more

Best inexpensive good food – I felt that it was a unpretensious enviorment, a great place for my husband and son and I to have a great meal after/before a ball game. Was so pleased with the food, service and cleanliness. Will definetly be back.

Horrible customer service – We had to wait for our table over an hour. When I asked about our table the waitress was extremely rude. After we moved from the bar to our table they charged our card they had at the bar without even asking us. We were 2 couples and were planning to pay for our own part. They rushed us through dinner, almost threw the silverware at us. Even thought we weren't done with our evening, not to mention the second bottle of wine, they brought the bill and told us to pay up because they had to do their b... read more

Some of the most authentic Italian in Seattle! – The food is GREAT. I used to live in Italy and I'm very picky about Italian food, but this is some of the most authentic I've ever had in Seattle. The only downside is that it's small AND they don't take reservations, so either don't go on a weekend or get there early, like around 6, if you don't want to wait an hour.
