With so many outstanding Italian BYOB's in Philadelphia, don't waste your time and money at Porcini. – I completely agree with the last reviewer. This restaurant was very inconvenient. When making reservations, they were adamant that we arrive on time. We were all there on time but the table was not ready. Mediocre at best – We don't understand all the good reviews. The food and service on our visit was sub-par. Based on the prices and reviews, we expected some yummy moderately upscale Italian. As far as food, we started with bruschetta which was burnt on the edges. For the main courses, we had bucatini (which was a good portion size but nothing special in terms of taste) and ravioli (which was a really small portion and not tasty at all). Good for a snack. – Quite disappointing. We went there on a whim. Appeared charming from the outside. The small space didn't bother us at all. The waiter was very nice, and the (?) owner seemed friendly. The bread was lousy (out of a plastic bag from WaWa). Seems like an easy/important thing to do right in an Italian restaurant. Perfect Food Portions in Cozy Setting – ..So the Host lingers around the dining room; and the bread basket and olive oil is of an amount appropriate for the table. So what!? The Entree portions are exactly what they should be and they are delicious at that. Awful! My dad has never stiffed a waiter.... – Until now. The bottom line is do NOT go here. Our Porcini experience was the most bizarre we have ever experienced & we dine out often. I assumed that people who mention fights with waiters on these review sites are generally volatile people, but we are a nice normal family. We?re shocked that this restaurant can still be open. Loved it! – No one should listen to any negative reviews of this restaurant. We had four people (two couples) and each of us ordered different items for appetizers and entrees, so we had a good sampling of everything. Every dish we had was delicious! What are these people talking about? – Porcini is our go-to place when we want romance and good food. We had one of our first dates here and will always hold a good place in our hearts. The waiters are friendly; the owner visible and warm. The food is fantastic. The portions are perfect. You leave feeling satisfied, not stuffed.
