I currently carry 2 balance transfers with penfed, both of which I paid the initial interest rate on. I was told that in order to pay-off the first to expire before it balloons, I could simply make extra payments which would be applied to the oldest, or first, transfer. But now I'm told this is not the case, and the only way not to be paying default interest on the first transfer is to pay them BOTH off, even though the 2nd doesn't expire until December. If I could give this company zero stars, I would. Through my work, I applied for and was approved for a personal loan on 1/17,2021. I was told I would receive a check in the mail within 5 to 7 business days. Today is March 8th and I have yet to receive the check. I have called PenFed a total of 16 times, each time staying on hold for over 30 minutes to be told that the check is on it's way. Today, I was told I would get it today. I have been a mortgage holder with PENFED Credit Union for 20 years. Throughout this time Pentagon Federal Credit Union has misappropriated funds of mine and has screwed up my account over and over again. IE: I had been on the Florida's Hardest Hit Program 7-8 years ago and requirement was to send a third party (US Bank) 70.00 each month towards my mortgage. Turns out PenFed milked my checking account dry for year and a half at $10 a month until finally it got to $Zero. I realized it when I received their cancellation letter of my account. This was all due to me not seeing their electronic notices. I had no idea I was even signed up for these notices. Being on a fixed income and watching my budget is very important to me.. 3/4/2021 - I Applied for a refinance mortgage on 9/22/2020 with PenFed. Received a preapproval within two days. I am still waiting almost six months later to try and get to settlement on the mortgage. There is NEVER any communication from PenFed letting me know the status of the mortgage. The ironic thing is that I just received a letter from Tom Wood, SVP at PenFed offering me the “opportunity” to take advantage of their mortgage services. I was at another Credit Union and they went under. PenFed took them over. I wasn't asked about moving. NOW PenFed CLOSED my location. I had two days notice and a friend called me to tell me. I opened accounts at another credit union. Mean while I couldn't make any deposits and my Medicare insurance payment was refused because I could NOT make deposit.
