About this business

Such is the popularity of this Northwest Portland institution that it's difficult to obtain a table here at the last minute. Taking its name from a celebrated Viennese composer, Papa Haydn serves up an excellent selection of American comfort food in an elegant environment. The menu is diverse and offers a superb selection of meat and seafood entrees along with a good choice in sandwiches and salads. Try the Albacore Pasta, the carbo-lover's delight. Be sure to sample one of their famous desserts, like the berry tart. Enjoy a... read more

Got Milk??? – I worked in a hotel that used Papa Hayden desserts when we were to busy to make our own. These were the only weeks we threw out cakes. I once opened a box and while it looked amazing, I took a bite and thought it was past its pull date. It was so dry and flavorless!! It had only been delivered the day before! I was shocked having heard so many good things before. Further encounters did little to change my first impression about their desserts.

I love Papa Haydn's for dessert. I have taken numerous friends here and everyone has been delighted by their desserts. I have also had a few lunches at the NW location. The food is good but a bit over priced. I have a salad, hamburger and another sandwich.

Got Napoleons? – Papa Haydns used to be the best now its more trendy than tasty. I still go there if I wanted to be seen. They dont even serve Napoleons. Need I say more?

resting on its laurels....... – Years ago I went to Papa Haydn's on Milwaukie. It was a pleasure to stop in and have a dessert or a meal. I have been to the one in NW also, but recently it has slipped. The last time the food was quite mediocre and the service needed some real work. I am sorry to say that what I experienced years ago seems now to be a thing of the past.

Best Desserts EVER! – Papa Haydn has the most decadent desserts! Not only are they beautifully displayed, but they are simply divine. They melt in your mouth. Meals are also very good, but nothing compares to the wonderful selection and taste of their desserts.

Cool desserts that are not-so-hot – Papa Haydn has a few good desserts. Unfortunately, many of them are better to look at than to eat. The portions are often too big...that's right...too big. There are eateries in Portland where desserts are truly wonderful, full of citrus flavors and locally grown fruits and nuts; perhaps topped with an unusual ice cream or sorbet. Also, sponge cakes and pastry shells filled with light (OK, but high calorie) mousses or puddings and perhaps drizzled with fruit or chocolate sauce. Those are t... read more

Never again! – I work in the 23rd district, and am always referring people to this restaurant but NEVER again will I refer anyone here. I went in on a Saturday night (knowing that they would be busy), but could barely even get through the door to just say, I want some dessert to go. Once I finally got up to the dessert case, that was fully covered by even more people and rude waiters yelling "I need by." About 45 minutes later, I finally got out and when I got home to finally enjoy what I had spent so hard getting, my desert... read more
