About this business

Come enjoy her beauty and dream of her rich past . . . Located on the Mississippi River between the historic Louisiana cities of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Oak Alley Plantation has been called the "Grande Dame of the Great River Road". Nowhere else in the south will you find such a spectacular setting! The quarter-mile canopy of giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, forms an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home. Very disappointing tour. We saw maybe 3 rooms and couldn’t take any pictures inside. The guide was very impersonal; basically sounded like a recording. Too many people in the groups to really be able to move and look around at everything. The only good part part was the restaurant.

The plantation was beautiful. Tour guides were fun and know their stuff.

The history and beauty of the plantation is unique ! I grew up in the south and live in Virginia now - there are probably 10 of them within 100 miles of where I live . Oak Alley ranks in the top 2 - behind Monticello home of Thomas Jefferson .

The most soul-stirring part of this section is the wall of names and the accompanying price list displayed next to it...truly puts things into perspective. Moving on to the "Big House", we had the pleasure of being guiding by Jessica, who, without bias or personal opinion, gave a wonderfully informative narrative of the going ons of ... read more

If you want to go to the amusement park of human torturers to take selfies in front of their home then go to Oak Alley. You'll have the most boring tour of your life because Oak Alley doesn't seem to be concerned with deeper dive history but with imagery. The 15 minute off-tour presentation about the life of the 200+ enslaved people from the property was given by a woman asking the audience who we thought had the worst job. It was tasteless, brief, and gut-wrenching that she would present in such a way. When I entered the "m... read more
