New York Lands In SF – San Francisco is changing... I was very impressed the second I walked in the door. The design & atmosphere is very relaxing. Music was nice & not overbearing. We sat downstaires since we did not have reservations, which I guess is recommended in this place. I was surprised to even find out that the bottle room was all booked.. We sat downstaires & the tables I must say were small, but afterall they were cocktail tables. Service was nice and they were making an effort to please... Food was good but came... read more

New York Vibe – Intresting concept. Seeing it made me think how come no one has done this before.. A whiskey bar in SF. This place is done with care & it feels New York which I like. We went there on the weekend and it was busy that we could not get a table in the main dinning area. I was surprised to even find out that the bottle room was also booked through out the whole night. We settled for a table in the bar area & ordered some few diffrent whiskies. Obviously whiskey starts to taste better & better the more you have of... read more

So so what – Although I was highly ancipating checking out Nihon, it was not only a major disappointment, but the piled high attitude was something not typical a SF dining experience.. Due to traffic mishaps my party of 4 found ourselves running late, and although notified the restaurant in route, were still refused a table when we arrived 15 minutes late. Not only was our table refused (although there were three empty tables in the upstairs dining room the entire time we were there), but we were banished to the lounge altho... read more

Plesantly Surprised – I went to NIHON with my boyfriend and three other people this thursday. We however could not get a seat, but they recommended for us their private"bottle room" with the requirement to buy a spirits bottle and ofcoarse the boys chose whiskey. The room was magnificant. We felt we were in some kind of undergorund new york club. My boyfriend said the whisky bottles were priced very resonable, i think it was $150. We were told if we did not finish our whiskey that they would store it for us in their locker f... read more

cute place – I love that my neighborhood has a cozy cute bar / restaurant for us to go to now! Nice design, pretty good food, and friendly service. Try and sit in the upstairs private area if you can.

New Concept & It Works – Who new that I would actually find sushi & whisky compatible, but they were. That is not to say that all we had was sushi since it is only a part of what was offered.. We were part of a group of 8 that all seemed to love the food. Portions are good size" not big though" but acceptable. The food was not on the cheap size but I felt the atmosphere, design, great service and quality of all that was brought before us made the prices very reasonable. The place had an extremly warm feel to it with mellow l... read more

3 star food – Izakya... I have tried it when I was in Japan & I must say the chef here has created a twist on this authentic Japanese food style & has perfected it. People who know Japanese food know that authentic is not only sushi the way we eat here. Im not sure though that diners in this city are sophisticated enough to apprecaite anything Jpanese byond sushi ! NIHON dishes seemed perfect in its blance & flavors. I loved the Goma Ae with its modern twist. The kobe Tataki & coke kobe dishes melted in our mouths & I was so... read more

WOW (Now we are talking) – San Francisco is growing up & this place is the sign of that after Frisson & the supper club. Design is WOW... I have not seen anything like it in this city... These guys idea to pair japnese with whisky has to be the best concept I have ever heard of. Funny enough I was reading about this whiskey pairing with sachimi like 3 months ago and these guys just did it before me. Been there now 3 times of which once was for food. They got it right... the food is excellent especially when you actually pair... read more

Don't go for the food... – We went the second night after its opening with some friends from out of town. The interior is chic and nicely done, the service was friendly. But the moment they told us they didn't have green tea (it's a japanese restaurant, right?), things started to go wrong. My mixed drink was terrible and the food was some of the worst I've had in a while. And, for the price, I expect a lot more. The food could be better if it wasn't trying to be too many things at once. Don't go expecting authentic Japanese ... read more
