Dissapointed – As a foodie who grew up in Japan, I was excited to read the words "izakaya-style cusine with a twist". In my mind, I thought wow, someone is finally putting together a true-modern, tokyo-style, izakaya style bar/ resturant. But man was I dissapointed. Their menu is the same old modern Japanese stuff that you could find anywhere, and what they mean by izakaya-style is that the portions are small. BEWARE: HORRIBLE, FOUL SUSHI – This place is to be avoided. We sent back 3 dishes-- the tuna poke tasted putrid and fishy, the rolls were sub-par, the lamb skewers were fatty and sinewy. And to top it off it was waaaay overpriced. The edamame was ok, but come on, steamed beans can't be too difficult... Avoid this establishment.
Superb Bar – What a place. the whisky list is like no other I have ever seen. you walk in the door and all you see is whisky. Although they have everything else I would not recommend drinking anything but the brown stuff. Service is excellent, very friendly, informative and sincere. User review by raychelle – I was so excited about this place. The atmosphere is so cool. BUT the service is poor no matter how cool, nothing beats service. Which this place completely lacks! The manager has a poor attitude and lacks maturity.
Mature, Sophisticated & unusual – San Francisco has few places where grown ups can enjoy with a sense of youthfulness in them at the same time. Nihon I found is one. We were having dinner next door at Chez Spencer on Monday when afterwards we decided to check out Nihon after hearing about its whiskey selection. We were very surprised by everything. Absolutely Impressive – The place is absolutely remarkable, delicious and a first of its kind although there few who are trying to get this concept passed but nevr perfected like this. If you pay attention to detail, you will notice that everything seems to have been built to suit the place, from furniture to bar to exposed brick etc.. etc... the food was delicious, the menu is original to the true izakaya style food although with a twist that i liked. It's okaaay, but – The value for the food is really not good. It shouldn't be rated two $$ because while the prices seem average the quantity of food you get is tiny... Also, be sure to not only make a reservation, but to also confirm it. All it all, this place just wasn't worth the effort and money.
Best Office party Ever – I have been to few office parties with the company I work for, but nothing compaired to what we had at Nihon. We had the whole top floor to ourselfes. Service was extremly accomadating & proffesional, even though we kept asking for more & more things that were not on our previous agreement. Busy Loud & fun – My first time there and we got what we did not expect; A party although we planned a simple dinner. When we arrived the place was not full, however in a matter of an hour or so all tables were full, music somehow got louder and the energy just shot through the roof.
