My child was here for partial inpatient and then intensive outpatient between October 2022 and Feb 2023. Pros: The staff were incredible. Young, but caring and truly excellent. They helped bring my child kindly and gently back from the brink. They helped them build skills and step back toward normal life. It's lasted, and my child is in a vastly different place than they were a year and a half ago. This place is horrible, I would not recommend. The time schedule is horrible, The groups are supposed to teach us, They dont we sit there and listen to people talk for a whole hour.
I went through an extensive application process to get my son into Newport. After weeks of communicating with them, they rejected him because he has issues with aggression at school. This seems like a Catch 22 since I was trying to get him into Newport BECAUSE of the behavioral problems at school. They insisted they wouldn't leave me hanging and would send me all sorts of resources to help me. They never did. During intake they never interviewed the patient and the person making the placement decision was a third person reviewer. They made a recommendation that is absurdly inappropriate and it has been almost a month and I am still waiting for a call from a clinician to discuss it. This is in violation of our patient rights and I will be submitting a formal complaint with the Maryland Behavioral Health Administration. Although I have yet to speak with a clinician the non-clinical staff has been very respectful and understanding.
