About this business

A splendid culinary adventure awaits you at Navarre, a unique dining destination with a highly innovative take on the working of a restaurant. The interiors have a very casual, cafe-style vibe with bare walls, a wine shelf on one of the walls and a handful of lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The all-glass entrance allows a good play of natural light inside. The chef crafts an innovative selection of European small plates with influences from the Italian, French and Spanish palate. The twist however, comes with the menu. Th... read more

very nice surprise – We bought our movie tickets to a 7:15PM movie at the Laurelhurst theater in advance and walked around the block to find a quick meal and a glass of wine before the show. We stumbled upon Navarre and I remembered reading positive reviews about it in the past. We ordered many small plates including Kens Artisan bread (best in the city in our opinion!), and some french cheeses which were sublime. In addition we had the leg of lamb, duck breast, bison flank steak, clams and eggplant with tadziki sauce. Every... read more

Great European feel – I love this place. It's just easy. Everything is tasty and well prepared. I enjoy the unpretentious atmosphere. It's a great place to go to enjoy good food, wine, and conversation.

so fresh and good – I just ate ate Navarre I had the best meal. The food was refreshing and light. I had fava beans with daikon salad, buffalo, mezuna salad and duck. All of it was great. There are so many good wines and a very nice one was suggested. I also could not resist dessert and it the pie was a perfect ending to our meal.

Did not get a chance for dinner – Went to Navarre on a suggestion of a co-worker. Decided to sit at the bar and have a glass of wine prior to dinner. As we sat ther and looked the room over, and the menu we decided that it seemed a bit un-kept. There were old newspapers, and canning jars stacked up in the entry way, and tables that needed to be cleared and so on. Not to mention that the barkeep seemed a bit put off with us sitting at the bar. It appeared to be the regulars hang-out area. Anyway we had our wine and headed nex... read more

Good service, great atmosphere, adequate plate execution, dry items – This was the second time we had dinner at Navarre. The first time was exceptional, with beautifully executed plates with divine flavors. We wanted to show off our find to another couple, so we went back a few months later. The second time was not so exceptional: the food was very dry and, I'm afraid to say, almost to the point of being tasteless. We had a great recommendation of wine by the server, but our selection couldn't make up for our disappointment ... read more

good food, needs cleaning – I went to Navarre after hearing about this eastside restaurant from some friends. I found the food to be fine. A nice selection of tapas. The menu, however, looked as if it needed a nice little layout change. For those that have been there you will know what I mean. It also appeared that the room needed a little tidying up. I am not a snob but I do require a little cleanliness with my meal. The food would bring me back, though.

best food – I have had some of my best meals in Portland here. It is a little sparce and the service can get a little slow when it's busy but the food is out of this world. I always have a great time there and have found the waitstaff both friendly and helpful. I recently went to dinner and there was an entire special list of Japanese food. I found this to be very strange but tried them anyway. They we delicate, beautiful and subtle. I was really surprised. All in all I think Navarre is a really nice place.

What a great lunch – I have been going to Navarre for years. In the last year they have improved the service and the food is better than ever. I went by the other day for lunch it was fantastic. I had a meatball sub ,it was light and delicious. Lunch consists mainly of sandwiches and salads a few soups and even some specials that carry over from the night menu. They are open all day. I can't wait to have a late afternoon glass of wine and snack. You can't go wrong with any of the food at night. There are so many wines by the... read more

Great food, sloppy execution. – I want to love this place, but they just won't let me! I've been three times now, and probably won't go back. The food is always quite good, but not so much so that I'm willing to overlook the problems. The space is attractive and welcoming. The food is well prepared and always satisfying, but service is an after thought at best; sometimes it's good and sometimes it doesn't exist. During all of my visits I saw spills on counters and prep spaces not wiped up during the entirety of my meal. Also... read more
