Service was lowsy at best our waitress totally lacked on checking on us, our drinks sat empty and it took almost 45 min to get a tea. She had little to know customer service not even a smile. They where not even busy. The Tortilla soup was amazing in flavor! The steak special was delicious minus half of the steak being purley fat. I too, was deeply concerned about the planned Gilad Atzmon event; but the beautiful news is that the creator and caretaker of the Mercury Cafe, Marilyn Megenity, cancelled the event. In this era when the alt-right is trying to insinuate itself into progressive spaces, her decision to cancel the event is something that will be celebrated throughout and beyond Denver's Jewish, Palestinian solidarity, anti-fascist, and other communities for years to come. I second the opinion of Donna Minkowitz, a writer whose work on equality, civil liberties, and social justice I greatly admire. I am familiar with the writings of Gilad Atzmon, and am shocked that he has been invited to perform at your cafe and to speak after performing. His writings are virulently anti-Semitic even though he himself is Jewish. And by that, I do not mean critical of the State of Israel, but of Jewishness and Jewish culture per se. Y'all, I am saddened and frankly angry that a progressive establishment would allow or condone bathroom policing. This is not ok in the progressive community, and until staff are prepared to stand with the lgbtq community and others (as staff or with patrons), I will not patronize or condone events held here.
