this is a diner wonderful service and quick good food. One of the best in the US . When you enter the diner you are greeted with a smile and the smiles keep coming. It is not fine dining it is just what it is a great diner that provides great service and a smile and good conversation.they make you feel comfortable

Not bad – Food is good, hours are great. Seating can be difficult with a group. Menu selection is limited. Not enough specials/variety. They are banking on their reputation to keep the tourists coming. Good for late night eats, breakfast food is very good.

Not for groups – With the exception of one corner table there wasnt room for a group of six or more. The philly cheesesteak I had was okay. The fries were hot and crunchy. Service was good.

Day or night, strangers share tables to munch comfort food at this South Philly favorite. – In Short At this local institution, known for its baked goods and shared booths, customers can expect to sit at tables that are already occupied. Orders are then placed with waitresses who exemplify diner-chic by wearing brown and white uniforms and nametags. Most folks go for the basics: eggs, bacon, hash browns and an old-fashioned cup of joe. Others prefer the day-of-the-week specials like meat loaf or broiled flounder served with ... read more

Check Please! – Melrose Diner is a nice diner. We went here for Sunday Brunch and it was extremely busy. Our waitress, who must've been over 60 years of age was always smiling and friendly. I would go back to Melrose just to be served by her. Actually, service was more on the slow side but they had many customers. I wouldn't go back for Melrose's food though. I had better, less soggy breakfast sandwiches. My boyfriend liked the scrapple, oddly enough. Portions are not as ultra-massive as most other diners. Overall, Melrose i... read more

What is the fascination – I had the opportunity to visit the Melrose Diner recently. I had looked forward to the experience due to comments I had heard about it and having seen it on TV over the years as the reporters would choose it to get a cross section view of the people pf Philadelphia. I cannot understand what the big deal is about the place. The food was bland, unimaginitive, cold, and overpriced considering the quality, ambience and service. The Melrose is not alone in thsi respect. It is the same boring, tasteless f... read more

Great Stuff – How could you not love this place. Everything is made from scratch and the food is always fresh. Pies and cakes are to die for!!!

Are You Kidding?!?!? – Maybe after a night out at 4 in the morning, but otherwise, I'd rather do a decent IHOP.

slop of south philly – when i was young i thought that the tv show mel's diner was good, but melrose diner is horrible. the university diner is much better and so is silk city diner. the waitresses are locals that were here before benjamin franklin. Late at night it feels the most unsafe of all the diners.
