User review by lahelt – excellent restaurant. Have been there over a dozen times, and the food is always delicious. I use this restaurant as a bench mark for all the other byobs in the city. I can't understand the reviews who say their waiter had a fake accent, I think he's Mexican and this is his natural accent
User review by dxdxmxe – What a terrible disapointment, the food was ordinary at best. The fried chicken livers were nearly burnt, however the sauce accompanying it was quite good. The appetizer salad special of octupos was okay. The chickpea soup with bacala was quite good, nicely presented and generous in portion. The Branzino was pretty yucky, the sage sauce was flavorless and the presentation was ugly, the grey fish skin was curled up over the fish looking blubbery and unappetizing. The Duck was tasty. The porterhouse tas... read more
Disappointing service – I'd read good reviews of Melograno -- so we were surprised by the very rushed and perfunctory service -- and there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant during most of our meal! Our food experience was mixed -- the red snapper and beet/mascarpone ravioli were excellent; the fried chicken liver appetizer was overdone and tough.
Mediocre – I must have had the same waiter as another reviewer. My husband and I went on a Sunday night and waited about 20 minutes which was no big deal. Then when our waiter showed up, he FAKED an Italian accent! It was so insulting. My husband and I have spent time in Italy so we realized right away that he was faking. It was ridiculous. The food was mediocre...definitely not worth it for the price. When we left, my husband wa still hungry and our fake Italian waiter told us they had to scale back portions because people ... read more
Converted my "hater of BYOBs" Husband – After much persistence (and 6 BYOBs later) my husband (who only prefers Stephen Starr's restaurants) had a change of heart. After we were promptly seated (on a Wednesday evening), and our waiter complemented us on our selection of wine (and told us everything about it-which we knew nothing) I could see a change. Then as my husband was throughly enjoying his portabello with goat cheese/pine nut appetizer (and stated it was the best appetizer ever)...he said "I love BYOBs!!!!" Enough sai... read more
one the best byob's in the city – we've eaten at this restaurant several times, tried many of the standard dishes and plenty of specials. we've never been disappointed. the food is artful, well-conceived, and prepared with care every time. the service is typical byo quality. i have no idea where all of these negative reviews are coming from...
Fool me once is more than enough – Having read the reviews, we opted for a Tues night so no wait; however, the hostess was so rude to our party and wanted to seat us next to the kitchen even though plenty of tables were open. The food was over priced but tasty. The waiter was well behaved; however, the clearing staff takes away your silverware before you even get to set it down! Will not repeat this bum-rush experience again - better byob's elsewhere.
Owners who really care – what a wonderful local italian restaurant, offering good food in a cafe style setting - but what impressed us beyond everything else was the incredible service and the level of attention that I have seen rarely in Philadelphia.
Never Again – I went back with a group of 4 friends and again, had to wait nearly 2 hours. Fine. We had a fine meal which was accompanied by nearly 4 bottles of our own wine. However, after having spent well over $200 on the meal, we were stunned when the waiter came over and asked us to leave so they could seat another party. We weren't even half way through our last bottle of wine! I will never go back to this restaurant again. I do not need to be treated like a fast-food patron after having waited for almost 2 hours to be... read more
