Rude Hostess Taints the Food – I was very happy and excited when I walked into Melograno with a friend. I knew they did not take reservations, so I had no problem waiting. However, the hostess underestimated the time to the table by 45 minutes. When I politely inquired, she was incredibly rude and nasty. I would NEVER speak to someone the way she spoke to me. It caught me so off-guard I said nothing and kept waiting. However, in retrospect, I should have left. The food ended up being good, but it didn't matter - that horribl... read more
Great food, terrible service – After moving to the new location, the quality of food remains the same, however the quality of service cannot be worse. I always wonder why the owner does not have his sister-in-law step out from the restaurant. She ruins all the virtue of this restaurant by her rudeness (e.g. never let the clients get seated if anyone is missing, even there are plenty of seats, drinking in front of the customers, throwing the menus to the guests). Other staffs are cheerful and nice, however this Asian lady rea... read more
Good ambience, average food – My boyfriend and I went to Melograno on a Tuesday night with reservations for 7:30. Even though it was a weeknight the place was packed and I was happy that we had a reservation in place since there were about 3 parties waiting for tables. Our waitress was "ecclectic" to be nice...since we were spending a good amount of money for our meal I expected her to look and act more professional. She had crazy makeup, and was wearing grungy jeans and beat up black sneakers! She didnt seem to care that ou... read more
Hostess with a rude attitude – Two of my friends and I showed up 10 minutes early for our 6:00 pm reservation for four last night. There were 3 tables of two guests in the restaurant - that was it. We identified ourselves to the hostess and indicated that our fourth friend would be joining us shortly. The hostess informed us that we could not be seated until our party was complete - even though the restaurant was basically empty. We indicated that we would order some appetizers right as we were waiting for our friend. With a... read more
Best Italian BYOB in the city – Melograno is consistently good. My wife and I are Fitler square residents and were dissapointed when they left for 20th & Sansom but still make our way over fairly regularly. Can get a little busy which can stretch the service. So long as you don't mind the wait, you will always leave satisfied.
don't believe they bad reviews – i frequent many restaurants in the city, and by far, this is one of the best! BYOB, and the food is fresh and seasoned to perfection. Yes, in the old location, the wait was horrible because of the "no reservation" policy, but now, it's in a larger space and i can't wait to go back! you can't please everyone, but as far as im concerned...this is a top choice!
Best BYO in Philly! – I went here with my boyfriend on Valentine's Day and was blown away. For a prix-fixe menu, there was a great selection for the four-course meal. The atmosphere was incredible and romantic, we were seated promptly, and had excellent service. The lobster ravioli was great, the quail was INCREDIBLE with a pomegranate-balsamic reduction, and the tiramisu was the best I've ever had (and big!). We sat right against the window and had a beautiful view and a wonderful meal. I highly recommend this to anyone loo... read more
Good Food; But Very Noisy – We waited about 30 minutes for a table. There were only two of us. And if I recall, they don't take reservations. The food was good. It came out in a timely manner. The service was nice but we had a different person checking in on us every time. We weren't sure who our server really was. It was so incredibly noisy that I could barely hear myself think much less hear what the other person was saying. When the food arrived, we just started eating. I ordered the red snapper. It was served over mashed... read more
Is this a joke? – After reading some glowing reviews on Citysearch, my friends and I decided to give Melograno a try. We arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night, hoping the dinner rush would be slowing down, but still expecting to wait for a table. The restaurant was busy, with a small group (6-7 people) waiting for a table. I asked the hostess if I could put my name in for a party of 3. She looked around the small dining room and said, "Sorry..I can't accommodate a party of 3." To which I replied, "Oh..we're fine with waiting fo... read more
