McSorley's is a Cooper Union landmark that first opened sometime around the Civil War. It is one of the oldest continuously operating bars in the city. McSorley's serves two kinds of beer, McSorley's Lager and McSorley's Cream Stock Ale, and they are served two mugs at a time. Inside, you'll find sawdust on the floor and historic bric-à-brac alongside photos and news clippings. The menu is simple, with appetizers such as hearty cheese plates. Just be sure to keep the pub's centuries-old motto in mind: "Be Good or Be G... read more

Good Ole Time – Sometimes you need a good place to grab some chili and down a few beers. Yes, it can be a pain to get seats, but it's got good beer and solid pub fare. It's the place to go for a laid back time with friends and co-workers.
As Yogi Berra said, – "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." McSorley's is a great old bar, but to appreciate it, get there early, before the crowds hit. Then you can get a feel for its history. You don't go for the drinks (light or dark beer only, in small mugs about 1/3 full of foam), the service (efficient but cold), or the food (if you're hungry, eat before you go there). You go because it's like stepping back in time. Just go in the daytime while you can actually look at your surroundings in relative peace.
Classic bar – This bar is great. Where else can you order a beer for $4 and they bring you 2? Once you sit, keep on drinking or you might get kicked out. I always take out of town guests to this classic bar.
AWESOME :-) – Great place for friends to hang out. Must like phrase LIGHT OR DARK b/c that is your choice of beer. You will be sure to have a good time. Put your drinkin shoes on. Try one of the corn beef sandwiches.
Old school in the house – Looking to gather with friends, this is the place. The right size beer mugs helps the beer flow free. The wood chips and jug of mustard on the table just add to the old school flare at this joint. Just when the night is coming to an end, you will be handed a plate food of cheese and crackers.
I Don't Get It – I would hardly classify this as a neighborhood bar when 75% of people who within 25 miles of the city and drink beer know about it. This is not a comment on the bar but on its categorization into 'Best Neighborhood Bar'. My vote: Karlow East
"Old Guy" hates idiots – I HOPE the person who rated the bar and referred to the OLD GUY is NOT talking about Richie. Richie rules. He rewards the true patrons, not the snotty rich kids who have a hard time trying to park their BMWs. Come in and lose that tone in your voice and you will be rewarded. Forget where you came from and act like a snot and you will receive the same bad attitude. "Be good or be gone."
Fun – McSorley's is a great place to take out of towner's and to get tother with friends. Not a place you want to hang out at on a weekly basis.
The BEST – I love this place!......Great food light and dark beer only but a great atmosphere......and if you're Irish even better
