Another McMenamins production, theThe Black Rabbit Restaurant & Bar is located within the Edgefield accommodations. Northwest American cuisine is the highlight of the menu, with some rather unique specialties such as the Wild Boar delicacy, the New York State with marsala sauce and pulled pork sliders. While fresh ingredients from the resident farm are used in the dishes, it would bode well to ask the server the daily specials and soups for some of their best offerings. To go alongside the traditional preparations, there are... read more

Great Spot on the Eastside – I think people need to take into consideration with this particular spot that it is inside the hotel at Edgefield making it unpredictable when it comes to availability since they have the lodgers as well as walk-ins (we've always made reservations in advance). The food is great - and they make most everything there rather than getting it out of a can like so many restaurants. I've had excellent service, and some that left a little to be desired, but again that can be said for most places. This is... read more
Could be great if anyone there gave a darn – This place is basically a lovely, sprawling compound of little bars and places to discover. They also offer free music most nights of the week. Add in their own wines and beers and it sounds like nirvana. That's what I'm always hoping for, anyway, but it never works out. Most of the staff acts as if they're too hip to be bothered, and your presence is an inconvenience to them. The wait to be seated is always ridiculous in the pub, even when I can see empty tables. The food is just... read more
Beware of the shrimp! – I had a very strange experience at Edgefield this week when I decided to have lunch there with a friend. First of all, I called the day before to make a reservation at 11:45am. I was put on hold for about 3 minutes and when I finally spoke to someone and asked for a reservations for 2, I was told that there was no room available. When I asked again, for only 2 people, I was rudely told that it sounded like I said 15. Wow! Should have been a clue. But no, I went anyway. The menu stated that shrimp bisq... read more
Simply Relaxing – I've always loved Edgefield for the beautiful grounds and amazing deals on wine tasting and now that I live close to it I visit it at least once a month. My husband and I will often trot over to have dinner at the Power House then take a walk up the the golf course bar and then back down to the wine tasting area... it's a great place to sit and visit with friends or listen to live music outside of the Little Red Shed. It's also a great place to stay- except on the weekends if you want a quiet night. As I re... read more
Good breakfast and lunch – We arrived at noon on a saturday and were seated promptly. There were only 4 other tables being served and our waiter was very attentive and kept our water anad coffee filled. We ordered the "Scrambled eggs and Chorizo" and the "Black Rabbit Burger". The chorizo was nice and spicey without being the normal greasy but could use more eggs. The burger had wonderful taste and crispy seasoned bacon. Overall a good experience.
Lousy service... some breakfast items are good – Every McMenamins affiliated restaurant has sub par service, but the last time I went to the Black Rabbit it was horrendous. When my girlfriend and I first arrived they said "we are booked it will take 20 minutes... however it could take less." We waited for an hour. (we almost left at 40 minutes but were told we were next) Then when we were let into the restaurant they only had 8-10 tables they were waiting on. There were 3 or 4 waitress' for those 8-10 tables and they were st... read more
wonderful experience – The Black Rabbit restaurant is the perfect place to bring a first date or the family for the holidays. We had a wonderful time, the atmosphere was great with interesting history and something new to look at around every corner. The menu has several items that were so amazing it was hard to choose. When we did the food came out perfect, the flavors blended together wonderfuly and the presentation was beautiful. Our service was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. Our server was able to read exactly what... read more
Don't waste your money – We are huge fans of this, I'll admit chain. We have been to other locations and enjoyed ourselves so I hat to have to say this. Don't wast your money on the Black Rabbit. Service was fine, nothing special. Our starter was calamari and was very good but we spent over a $100 on this tab and the rib eyes were the worst I have ever had. I don't like my meat over cooked and med rare is my standard with pink expected. This was rare and I do mean rare. The flavors all worked well together but the chef has n... read more
Unimpressed – I've been to several McMenamins throughout the Portland area. Typically I love their service, atmosphere and food; however, despite three visits, I remain unimpressed with the service at McMenamin's Edgefield. Most recently, my husband and I paid a visit to Lucky Staehly's Pool Hall on the Edgefield property. It took nearly a half hour for us to be noticed by a waitress (actually, we had to flag her down, she had checked on several tables around us, but failed to stop by our table). When we did finally get her ... read more
