Mayflower Cafe

About this business

An old marquee bearing the familiar name hangs over the corner and shows the way to this long-standing Jackson favorite. Guarded by a pair of grumpy Greek brothers, the requisite long counter with its vinyl spinning stools make this greasy spoon as authentic as they come. Grab your own spoon to ladle generous portions of pork, beef and chicken bathed in thick Southern gravy. Open late by Jackson standards, this is a great choice for those whose business keeps them downtown until late evening.

I'm not one to write reviews. However, this place is amazing! Best fried oysters ever! Best coconut pie ever. Best server ever!

The crab cakes were just okay - not the best I've had. It took a good while to get my order. It was a bit pricey for the quality. I had a good visit with the owner, though.

The Mayflower is the best! Great food. Great people. Great times, always. Take your family there soon. Ask for Brandi, and tell Jerry "hello!"

Overcooked cobia and terribly tomato-based stew that they called seafood gumbo. Chloe said her hamburger was yucky. Very expensive for terrible service and food quality. As a Louisiana native, I may be biased. But this is only 2.5 hours from NOLA!

Had a cheese burger but it was less than stellar.. I was told by manager I should have tried one of their lunch plates and that the burgers are not one of their specialties. I didn't want a plate lunch and really didn't want a burger but I was there so I ate that... The lettuce was pale and the tomatoes were two little chunks rather than slices. I asked for onion and pickles and they had to bring me the onion because they forgot it and the pickle was a pickle spear that I had to cut up myself... Not a pleasant impression for... read more

I have been going to the Mayflower Cafe since I was a little girl! Excellent food and great service as always... they went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with everything! My daughter had the fried catfish and I had the filet! Try the comeback dressing!!!
