Did not live up to expectations – Hopes were high for Limon's replacement in this small space just off Mission. Some of the dishes were excellent, especially the appetizers (crab puffs and ribs), but the portions were absurdly small for "comfort" food. What a letdown... – We went to Maverick extremely hopeful that we would discover a hip, new addition to our list of favorite Mission eateries, but left extremely disappointed. The young owner was pleasant and the tiny space presents itself as very inviting. The worst part of our experience was how long it took the kitchen to get simple plates out - including us, there was only one other diner at the restaurant, and he commented that his half-hour wait for a TURKEY SANDWICH(!) was unfathomable. Outstanding – I usually don't write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience at this restaurant. I originally tried to make reservations for Saturday night, but they were all booked. Mike, one of the owners, put me on the waiting list, and made sure to call me twice to let me know of any new opennings. rocks! – This is a great addition to Th SF restaurant scene! Interesting and fun dishes that deliver much more than you expect. Hip and romantic, with a very personal feel. Great wine list too!
Awesome – Exceptional food, service and ambiance make this an all around class act. For a new restaurant, they really have their act together and have converted the old Limon space into a warm, cozy hot spot. Duck was fabulous. Highly recommend the steak frites as well as the goat cheese and beet salad. Skip the mac and cheese and save teh calories for dessert.
One of the best new restaurants – I've recently had several really good meals at the new crop of restaurants (Canteen, Range, Myth), but my experience at Maverick was the best overall experience I've had in the last few months. Great new restaurant! – What a delightful restaurant Maverick is. My husband and I are visiting San Francisco and happened to find it and have been so pleased at the freshness of the food and friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had the scallops and haddock dishes and found them to be delicious and beautifully presented. The chocolate cake is really, really rich. Attention to detail is clearly an objective there. I highly recommend this restaurant. We'll go back again!
Still one of our favorites! – My wife and I finally were able to get a babysitter and when we were deciding where to go to take advantage, there really wasn't any doubt. We've been to Maverick before and couldn't wait to get back. It is a fantastic dining experience. Great new spot – Hip decor, AWESOME service and delicious food are going to make this little gem impossible to get into soon. I celebrated my birthday there with some girlfriends, and everyone at Maverick made it such a special evening. Scallops were awesome as well as the tuna starter I had and everyone loved their food. The bottle of wine we had was really interesting and yummy too. Even our server was noteworthy. He was just the right amount of attention plus wittiness and friendliness.
