New Favorite – We were headed to another mission restaurant, when we passed by this quint restaurant. Luckily there was a opening for two for a walkin and we decided to abort our original plans. The staff was pleasant, helpful and personable. Waiter actually recommended a bottle of wine that was not one of the pricer wines. Speaking of wines, what a list. Great to see wines from all aroud the country. NY Steak was huge and tasty. Lamb Porterhouse was delicious. Salads were terrific. We regret not trying any of the desserts, ... read more
Tries hard, but doesn't get it right – 5:30 pm Sat 3/4/06: Server wasn't knowledgeable about food but friendly & attentive. Busboy kept awkwardly interrupting us, despite empty restaurant. Food bland and uninteresting, although presented well. Had beet & goat cheese tartlet (good cheese, beets too hard, whole thing fell apart), splitpea soup (too watery), mac-n-cheese (too watery & needed a sharper cheddar), monkfish (ok), lamb porterhouse (good though not exceptional), double chocolate bread pudding (dry, tasteless chocolat... read more
Money Maverick! – An all around great dining experience. Food is consistently tasty and hearty, staff and service go above and beyond, and the ambiance is full of life and energy. With the changing menu and wine list, there is always a good reason to go back for another meal and I certainly plan to continue to do so. The fried chicken was phenomenal, as were the pork sandwich I have had for lunch and just about everything else I can remember eating here. Great stuff!!
What a Pleasant Surprise! – The service was superb, including their wine recommendations. The beet salad with pecorino cheese was divine, as were the stuffed chicken and apple pie. While the place is a bit on the small side, and it's rather loud, this was a great surprise for me and my friends. I will be returning to dine there again!
Small Portions, and poor service – We were very disapointed in both the quality and quantity of food at Maverick. The portions were small, the waitstaff slow and unsure of themselves. The food was average. Reviews raved of their Mac & Cheese...tasted like it was made with cheap chicken boullion...with added parsley! The pulled pork sandwich was so light on the pork, that it tasted like bottled bbq sauce on bread! Overall a poor excuse for American fare.
Great Brunch!! – Just found out they are open for brunch on the weekends and what a treat. Great eggs and fantastic pecan french toasts. If you're looking for a good brunch place in the Mission but don't want to wait for hours for a table, go to Maverick!!
Superb cuisine – Maverick rocks. They have warmed up the space formerly known as Limon. It feels warm and welcoming. The maitre'd manages the flow of people into this tiny space with ease. Reservations are HIGHLY reccommended as there are only 12 tables. The service was superb. Our server was well versed in the wines and menu. I had the best fried chicken ever with peppery mashed potatoes that put my mom's to shame. Trout was presented beautifully with smoky infused flesh. Yum. There is definitely the trip bomb noise factor ... read more
New Favorite Spot! – I love a hearty meal, for that I will always go to Maverick. After being bombarded with light sushi-esque vegan cuisine in this City, Maverick has finally filled a niche. I loved the fried chicken and the service was outstanding. Great interior. Not too quiet, but just right. I am glad there is a hip and TASTY restaurant that doesn't have yuppies pouring out of the doors. Definitely a great atmosphere!
Terrible, terrible food. – I am not one to take time to write restuarant reviews, but the food at Maverick was so terrible I just have to vent. I paid $25 for a steak that looked like it came from Sizzler: grey, fatty, thin, and unappetizing. Only 25% of the steak was edible, the rest was pure fat...plus the vegetables were overcooked. I sampled my friends entrees and found them to be lacking too. Warning: the fish dishes all come with the skin left on. This is a place for burly, manly diners who like food that looks like it... read more
