friendly service – I really want to like Maverick. The service and people were both friendly and gracious; I want them to succeed... but the menu is too limited to give Maverick a hearty endorsement. Go if you do not have food limitations and enjoy! If you do (vegetarian, kosher, allergies, picky etc), you might have some difficulty. I would go back without a second thought, but I would not organize a dinner with a group of friends here. The wine list was reasonable, I was happy with it.
They've never let me down... – Everytime I eat here Maverick climbs up another notch on my personal list of places to dine. The duck confit is out of this world. Good wine list, cool staff, amazing bread pudding. They also do a pretty nice brunch. You really should go here.
This is the way to run a restaurant. – My date and I were lucky enough to stumble across this gem last Saturday, on the last day of their one-year anniversary extravaganza. As soon as we walked in for our 9:45 reservation, we were treated like royalty. First, they were pouring a free glass of cava in honor of the celebration. With this they gave us a beautiful potato-grav lox canape. The chef put together a special four course prix fix menu with wine pairings, and we had to go for it. The restaurant was slammed when we walke... read more
Great service, fun environment, good food and wine – Went for the first time this past Saturday, and although they've "sound-proofed" the dining room, it's still a loud place. However, the staff was very attentive, quite fun and very knowledgeable. One thing I really liked was that they highlight a bottle of wine each night that is normally only available by the bottle, but is made available by the glass (2-glass min.) that evening. Great way to taste those wines without spending for an entire bottle. Food was tasty and the ... read more
Great food and wine, and staff – I am a business ownermyself. I love this place!! The food was delicious. I had the beet and pea salad to start with and had the chicken dish for my main course. The dessert was the very best and I have eaten a lot of peach cobbler before. It was supreme!! The wine pairing was perfect and the staff treated us like kings. Did I mention that they have sound proofed the place so you can hear yourself talk with your companion. The remodel job they did on the place is beautiful. I can't wait to go b... read more
Great new spot – We were pleasantly surprised by our experience at Maverick. Our server was extremely knowledgable about both the food and wine. At his recommendation, we selected one of the best bottles of wine we've had in a long time (a Barbera). Our meals were both fabulous. As I'm a vegetarian, the veggie option at some restaurants seems more like an afterthought than anything else. Not so at Maverick. The portobella mushroom dish was well executed and as good as any I've had at restaurants that are much more expensive.... read more
DY-NO-MITE! – I've been to Maverick a few times since it opened and liked it enough to return. But the last time I went, late on a relatively quiet Friday night, Maverick made it into my top ten. The kitchen has kicked it up a notch, and the food now equals the great ambience. They do comfort food, but they've finally gotten over being just like mom and have started making food that's interesting. The apple-celery soup and fried artichoke salad were the bomb and the main courses were worthy of any of SF's finest, especially ... read more
What are these people thinking? – I liked the colors and the space...and then the food arrived and it all went south. First the waiter fussed over our $35 (read inexpensive) bottle of wine like it was a 1975 bottle or Opus One. He strained the first few ounces through a tea ball...yes, a tea ball, and rinsed our glasses with the wine pouring the residual into a black napkin. I have NEVER seen anything like this. Then he gave us the disappearing act and we never saw him again until the check. Very strange. Very bad service, v... read more
Terrible service, great food, overpriced – After waiting at our table for 40 minutes, our waiter came to take our order. That was the last that we saw of him until the end of the meal. When our wine was served, they "rinsed" each of our glasses with the wine-- probably lost 1/8 of the bottle through that process. I've never seen that done anywhere else, not Aqua, not Farallon, and not at any winery. The portions were really small considering the price of the food. Although, everything we ordered was delicious. The wine was n... read more
