Known for their creative beverage pairings an terrific brunch, maverick is the ultimate comfort food spot. Don't miss the fried chicken!
Great or groups – They had me at mac and cheese and roasted brussel sprouts. I'm quite the critic when it comes to these 2 items and Maverick delivered! The brussels were nicely tinged, but not over burnt. The service was great... attentive, friendly, and suggestive of great menu items. I would def come back here with a large group (there was 14 of us)
Quaint Mission respite charms with New American comfort cuisine. – The Scene Natural light pours through windows showcasing Mission clamor. Ceiling fans surrounded by sound-proof paneling keep the small spot's vibe cool and calm. Communal diners can be heard cavorting at a high table in front of an exhibition kitchen, while earth tones and wood floors complete the minimal, warm ambience. The Food A dozen dishes decorate the comfort-centric menu with European flair. Long, roasted sardines make for a spectacular opener--bathed... read more
Fantastic Find – I had dinner last night here with several girlfriends. All of our courses were amazing and the wine list, although small, is very diverse and reasonably priced. The space is small but very cozy and nicely done. Staff were friendly and attentive and overall, the experience was a very good one. Very similar to Range in style and slightly less expensive. We eat out a lot and we all agreed this is a great find and somewhere we look forward to coming back to time and time again.
Not great, not bad, just uninspiring – Another entry in the "new American" category, this small restaurant (in the old Limon space) did not disappoint, but also did not leave us planning another trip. The baby back ribs as a starter were sweet and meaty, but the dressing on the pear salad had almost no flavor. The venison loin was cooked perfectly rare, but the fried chicken, recently written up in the Chronicle, was substandard- a flavorless and too-soft skin. The sides on both entrees were barely touched. The wine list is ... read more
Warm, friendly Bistro – I've been to Maverick twice, sampling many menu items each time. None of them have disappointed. I ordered a pumpkin squash dish last time. I was a little concerned about the combination of ingredients - but they worked. It was great! They have a good wine list and you can always find someone knowledgeable to help you select. Both times our servers have been prompt, efficient and helpful, even when the restaurant got crowded to overflow. I can understand some people's concerns with the location, but m... read more
good comfort food – It's a new buzz in the mission. Right in the heart of Mission. Although the place is on the small side, and I had trouble finding it, missed the sign the first time. And the nieghborhood isn't my type of neighborhood, but the food and service has proven otherwise. It's quite polished and simply elegant on the inside, nice natural wood color decor. It's southern comfort food which includes amazing Fried Green Tomatoes apetizer, my friends loved the baby ribs. I had excellent rissoto, two friend on my table... read more
Hidden treasure! – Mike and Scott couldn't be better hosts, and their restaurantt/wine bar is a pitch-perfect match to the men's fabulousness (yes... I said fabulousness...). The intimate setting only adds to the feeling that you've stumbled upon a little-known secret. The service is top-notch, the wine-list is diverse and complex and the food is always perfect (taste, presentation... it's all there). Sit at one of the large tables near the door with all your friends for a great night out, or tuck around the corner and have ... read more
Monday night wine special rocks! – I love coming here on Monday nights when all wine is 40% off. We got to try some amazing wines that would normally be out of our price range. They were great about making suggestions without making us feel like wine idiots. The fact that the food and service are so good just makes it all that much better. The fried chicken is delicious as is the macaroni and cheese.
