Good Food... Naughty Waitress – I'd never been to Matt's Bar. After hearing my boyfriend rave about it for a year and half I really wanted to try it. We decided to go one afternoon for a little date. Dig into a legendary burger in a classic dive-bar setting. – In Short From the outside, Matt's looks like just another dark, old neighborhood corner bar sporting faded Grain Belt and Bud signs. Inside, it's just a long, skinny bar with a row of plain booths and a jukebox featuring the standard mix of classics. But legions of sports fans, families and locals make regular trips down Cedar Avenue to order thick, handmade burgers stuffed with bubbling, salty cheese and nestled against a heap of hot fries.
Still the place for a great burger. – I don't know when others have visited, but I have always had fabulous service at Matt's Bar. The Jucy Lucy is still one of the best burgers around, and the fries are near perfection. Don't miss this great neighborhood tradition!
With that kind of service... – This place has ok food with really bad service. If you want to be ignored, then I guess this is the right place for you. I only saw one waitress, and she was rude and totally unfriendly. With that kind of attitude I still don't understand how come some people reviewed this place as recommended.
JUICY LUCY what more can I say!! – Becareful not to burn your mouth. Other than that they have the best burgers.
Burger Quality – I kept hearing how good the burgers were so one day I finally stopped for lunch. It smelled "sooooooooo" good when I walked in. I sat down and ordered a "Juicy Lucy" and then almost blew a gasket when I watched the cook throw my burger on a fry griddle. There is only one way to have a GREAT burger, on the grill. My own grilled burgers at home are far better. As far as I'm concerned their burgers were below average and might make above average status only if they used a Jenn-Air grill at minimum. Just an average, and OVER RATED, burger. – Review after review, Matt's burger and fries combo is top rated. While it is inexpensive and decent, I would only rate it average. The food, alright. Service, alright. Price, good. Location, not good. Better burger and fries at an establishment in st. paul and in dt. Mpls. (check my other reviews)
User review by hotpinkanthia – They have the best burgers and fries. If anyone has not gone recently-they just got plasmas! Kind of funny with the rest of the decor, but it all works. Jucy Lucy's are great and the service is always awesome. Love it! Cheap, fabulous food, and fun atmosphere.
Juicy Luicy Rocks!!! – Fear the cheese!! Love the burg, love the whole greasy cheese bursting in my mouth, love the wax paper, and love the pop in a can. You have any problems with having no ice, no plate, no fork, bring your own. They splurge the budget on the food. I live in L.A. now, and was just back in Minneapolis this weekend. Its a MUST.
