Finally, a great sushi place – I've been searching all over the Seattle area for a great sushi place and I've finally found it. The first thing I look for is quality of the sushi, and Mashiko serves excellent quality sushi. I hate sushi places that serve a tiny sliver of sushi on a monster bed of rice...WHERE'S THE FISH? Mashiko serves a very healthy portion of fish that drapes off both ends of the rice. To top it off, there's a wonderful selection of food and fine sake that will make you want to return as soon as possible t... read more
Awesome! – There's a lot of creativity going on at Mashiko - and the results are mouth-watering. The sushi chefs are long-termers and remember your name - besides serving up amazing sushi without pretention or high prices! I used to live in Japan and Mashiko is my favorite place in Seattle.
Big Portions – I thought the place was pricey at first look at the menu. That was until I was serverd, very big pieces of sushi. The NY steak with wasabi glaze was mouth watering. I could not finish my dinner. I wish they had a selection of cheaper sake.
It's a mouthful – I agree with others, the sushi is very fresh and creative. However I find it much too big to fit in my delicate girly mouth all in one bite! But, since it's rude to attempt to bite off a peice I sit with my cheeks puffed out, munching as fast as I can to keep from choking. I also avoid the place at dinner time on weekends because it's soooo crowded. The need to do something to make it a little more cosy inside, as well.
More sushi for the buck – A bit price but the portions were huge so it was worth it. Nigiri had nearly twice the amount of fish as the typical sushi place.. Staff very friendly. I have eaten there many times of the past few years and have never been disppointed. They do need a bigger place.
Highest quality sushi I've ever had. – I have been fortunate enough to sample sushi in Boston, New York, LA, and Seattle, and Mashiko is the highest quality. Prices seem high, but portions are huge. Selection is copious and creative, chefs are friendly and they'll remember your favorites. Specify a price and they'll custom-design beautiful rolls and nigiri. You'll fill up before you break the bank. Quality pervades the whole menu (hot entrees are also amazing). I am mystified by the bad reviews. It's often busy, true. Relax!... read more
Slipping – Dined there this weekend, the place was very busy. The Sushi was not very good:the rolls were heavy on rice, the plates were warm for cold fish, the fish(tuna) was not at the proper temperature.I was not impressed!probably the weakest sushi I've had in Seattle. The most important thing was the place was dirty:dishes left on tables after customers left, the floors needed cleaning and the place overall needed a good makeover.I think it's riding on it's past!
nice pictures.. – The restaurant is very interesting to look at, with abstract pictures and a very interesting layout, but the food is very overpriced. The food is very good, dont get me wrong, but the menu, at the back of it, they have these "house rules" that are very immature and rude to display ("shut up and eat") and the food takes a very long time to prepare, even with so many chefs.
Poor Service - Repeat ably – We live close by this restaraunt and keep giving it a second (and third) chance since they do have the best sushi in West Seattle. However, I have to say the service is horrible. The wait staff makes you wait to order, the food takes a long time to prepare and in general the staff has a horrible attitude. We won't be going back.
