Marine Mammal Care Center

4.9

About this business

This complex is a fine alternative to ocean-themed parks like San Diego's Sea World. Here, you can view sick or injured seals and sea lions rehabilitating in preparation for their return to the ocean. The center, run by two full-time staff members and a number of volunteers, caters primarily to California Sea Lions, Northern Elephant Seals, Northern Fur Seals and Harbor Seals. The center also has a gift shop and exhibits with materials intended to educate the public about marine mammals. Admission is free.

I came across the place accidentally on-line and it was awesome!!! It’s free to visit but of course donate while there to a great cause. Staff were super nice to answer questions. The gift shop/ visitor store was closed when we went but it was just interesting to see the sea lions and seals.

Smaller than the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, this wonderful facility cares for sick and injured seals and sea lions. It’s relatively easy to see them, and the gift shop makes it easy for the public to contribute financially.

Amazing FREE experience that shows the less glamorous yet so important rescue and care of stranded and injured seals and sea lions. Well worth our visit 😊

Well organized care and rehab center for marine mammals. We saw harbor seals, sea lions, elephant seals, fur seals, and probably some others. The goal is to rehabilitate the animals for return to their natural environment. Great facility!

We loved seeing the seals and sea lions that are recuperating. They were enjoying the sun and taking dips in their pools. And they make the funniest noises! We’re so glad there’s a local place like this to help marine mammals in need.

I love to stop in here for just 10-20 minutes to visit. The sea lions and seals are in pretty good health by the time they are out in the pools, so you just want to root for their successful return to the sea.
