LA Fitness is not taking mask wearing seriously as evidenced by the fact that the front desk man isn't wearing one! I will be looking for another gym.

I went through 3 trainers in 3 months, who all stood me up numerous times and left the gym without telling me. I tried verbally and emailing to end my membership due to the gym not keeping their end of the contract signed. I was continually billed at the wrong price, a very higher one, for six more months. Its now been over a year of me sending proof of text messages, and emails proving LA Fitness not fulfilling their end to the contract, asking for a refund of the months I was not trained and nobody will respond back to me.... read more

I was a customer for many years having more than one membership for my family. In May I tried to cancel by following their guidelines and it was basically impossible. Reached out to CS several times but no matter what I did ended up in an endless circle, therefore, requesting CS to cancel 2 memberships. They charged me for June and canceled a week after. Not only was I tricked into signing a year long personal training contract, I was also lied to about the whole ordeal after I verbally stated I don’t want to sign for a year. I received no proof of the contract I signed and was told that it was my fault for not reading the contract correctly, even though I don’t have proof of a contract to begin with. I've always heard and read stories about LA's sly charges but never experienced it until now. This review is in regards to the yearly maintenance fee I joined June 18th, 2019 and got charged the yearly maintenance fee of $54 (including tax) on August 18th. Why I'm charged a YEARLY maintenance fee on the 3rd month is beyond me but I regress. Due to Covid I froze my account on March 13th and unfroze is on August 11th (151 days). Cancellation issues. I sent an email to LA Fitness notifying of my intent of cancellation, as instructed on their web site. I provided all the data available on my app under the "my account" section - Fitness Bar Code First name Last Name Home Club Billing Name They responded that since i hadn't provided my phone number, that they couldn't "find" me in the system and were not able to honor my cancellation notice. I had to move due to COVID related job loss and tried to cancel my LA Fitness membership. I was instructed that I had to come into the facility in order to cancel, something that is impossible because I no longer live near an LA Fitness and do not want to have to enter the facility due to COVID. The customer rep. was very rude in responding to my request. Visited the store today to sign up for a new membership. After paying, you sign a pin pad in which you have no idea what you are agreeing to. I thought I was signing for the payment, but discovered shortly after, I was signing some unread waivers. I requested a copy of what I was signing, but I did not receive the copy. It is bad practice and sketchy to have customers sign waivers in which they do not know what is on them.

The gym and personal training themselves are pretty good in my opinion. That warrants at least two stars. Everything else about these two things is questionable. The company treats you like a number and not a paying customer when you sign your life away for a 1 year PT contract. Their contract with you is draconian and you have no rights under it. No appealing, no cancellation without a medical excuse ... no sympathy when you want to get out of it if you're doing bad financially or are legitimately worried about getting sick... read more
