History Established in 1949. On February 24, 1949, Kern Employee's Federal Credit Union was officially established to serve the employees who worked for the County of Kern. At that time, there were approximately 60 members and $1,500 in assets. In 1980, we changed our name to Kern Federal Credit Union in order to extend our membership to anyone who works, lives, or worships in Kern County. In 2019, to mark our 70th anniversary we changed our name to Strata Credit Union to better establish ourselves in the marketplace. Today ... read more

I have been a member for over over 30 years. The customer service has become so bad, I am going to bank elsewhere. I would recommend you consider Kern Federal for your banking/credit union needs.
Most every financial institution I've ever dealt with has had at least one thing I could nitpick about, but KFCU has come through for me time and time again. I left the overgrown "banks" 8 years ago and never looked back!
Kern Federal is my credit union of choice. I've had numerous car loans with them as they have the best rates in town. Don't get them confused with that inferior credit union with the similar name.
Business response:
Appreciate it Jason Andrew Juarez! Glad to have awesome members like you!
I have been a customer for over thirty years. In the past couple of years, customer service is lacking. I am being charged dormant fees every month on a savings account. Apparently, if an account is inactive for a one year period, it is deemed dormant and fees are applied. However, I believe that is incorrect. It is my understanding that an account becomes dormant after 30 months. Also, if Kern Credit Union wishes to assess dormant fees for an inactive account, I feel the account holder should be notified either by letter, e... read more
Business response:
Good morning Irene, sorry for any misunderstanding regarding your savings account. I am not sure where you got the information regarding the "dormant after 30 months," however our dormant fee has been in place since 2014. We make every attempt to notify our members of any fee changes on our website, mail, email and with in branch displays as well. If there is no activity for over a year the account can fall into the dormant state. If an account is dormant for too long the funds then are claimed by the state government. To co... read more
Great bank! Great people! Nothing but great things to say...Now with that being said can I get a million dollar loan? Please!
Since when does a credit union charge it's members for the privilege of accepting your money? Kern fed charges a 2 percent fee for using their coin machine, even if you are depositing the money into your account. I also attempted to make a deposit of rolled coins and was told they would not accept rolled coins, they had to be processed through the coin machine. I was told the fee was necessary because people put non coin items through the machine, causing problems. I told them if I caused some problem with their machine, the... read more
