History Established in 1949. On February 24, 1949, Kern Employee's Federal Credit Union was officially established to serve the employees who worked for the County of Kern. At that time, there were approximately 60 members and $1,500 in assets. In 1980, we changed our name to Kern Federal Credit Union in order to extend our membership to anyone who works, lives, or worships in Kern County. Just solved the mystery of what happened to my account at Kern Federal Credit Union. I got a post card stating I "request"ed "to close" my "account". I had not made that request. So, after figuring out I was NOT talking to someone local to Bakersfield and who didn't know that it was before 5:30 PST (eye roll, sigh), I called and pressed a random number to see if I could get someone in Bakersfield, which I did! Switched to KFCU a few years ago because of their excellent customer service, great perks, and super low rates on vehicles. Love having everything in one place and I can always count on being treated with respect.
I love being rewarded for not over drawing my account. I have been with KFCU since 1986. I love them and would never want to change. Thank you KFCU.
Love the tellers, but when it comes to opening a new account or a loan you get the worst customer service!
