Gourmet Lunch – I love this place. Their catering menu is succulent. Pop in for a quick cafe latte and a gourmet sandwich. My favorite is the imported mortadella with goat cheese gouda. To die for. The sides are great. This place is always busy, but try and find a seat outside. Its a little pricey, but all the ingredients are incredible, so i can see why. Also don't be confused by the order on one side, pay at the other cashier routine they have.
Coconut cupcakes – Joan's has the best coconut cupcakes ever made. Made of dense vanilla cupcake with a rich coconut frosting. They're small but so rich that I can only eat 1/2. Also, excellent is the salami sandwich on crusty bread. The service couldn't be worse. You have to wait in 2 long lines, one to order, another to pay. The parking might as well be non-existent. And the staff is doing you a favor by letting you pay for their food. But the food is that good - worth the trouble.
I'm still hungry – The food here is pretty good, but the portions are insanely small. I got a ham and cheese sandwich for $9 and I was still very hungry after I ate it. I really felt ripped off. The place has two lines and I was lectured by the girl at the register because I ordered my sandwich at the same line where I bought my groceries. Note to Joans: no one likes standing in line, much less twice. Anyway, this place used to be a lot better a year ago. The pickles are still really good as are the rosemary crackers.
Superb cupcakes – I never imagined to find such wonderful coconut cupcakes in Los Angeles. I recommend them to all. One will not be disappointed, as they are truly worth every penny.
Yummy cupcakes As a cake and cupcake lover, I was pleased by the white cake with coconut cupcake that I bought. It was quite large, moist, not too sweet and enjoyable. My father and I both are still raving about it. $2.50 is a bit much to pay for a cupcake but being that it is positively delicious, that is a small price to pay for something so good. I want yet another one. I have tried some other bakeries in town and have found the one from Joans to be worth mentioning. Anything beats Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. PROS: tasty ... read more

Dumb Set-Up – Good food (especially the cupcakes) but truly is an incredibly stupid set-up with one place to order, another to pay--creates total, unnecessary chaos. They really need to change it. Good people-watching spot while you are waiting (eons) for your take-out order--Many chic status bags in attendance.
Cupcakes!!!!!! – Walking in this place, you'll think you're at Dean & Deluca's at Rockefeller Center in NY! Joan's is always busy. The sandwiches from the turkey meatloaf to the rosemary roast beef with creme (my favorite) are fantastic. In addition to sandwiches, they have a wide variety of tasty side dishes, including cous cous, szechuan string beans, and a heirloom tomato salad. Stale Cupcakes Now maybe I went on a bad day, and maybe I'm just too picky, but I did not enjoy my expensive cupcakes. I'll say that the ideas of a lot of them are very interesting and if they were more fresh they could be amazing. However, the 15 minute wait and the feeling of being ripped off didn't make the stale cupcake taste any better.
