OVERPRICED! – Cute ambiance but way too expensive for food that pretty much tastes bland and never changes. They are also very busy, which can be a reason for their slow service, but this needs to improve because a coffee takes 15 minutes to come out and to pay you wai for another 10. There goes my lunch break.

Too pricy for what you get – My wife and I went to here for lunch today for the first time. I like the feel of the place when I walked in although it was a bit chaotic, it reminds me of back East. We ordered a salad and a Sandwich for $25. The food was good, but too small to call it a full lunch. The sandwich bread was supermarket kind and the only sides with the sandwich were a few slices of pickles. I was going to try the desserts but I will wait till next time, but probably wouldn't order food because it is pretty pricey ... read more

Crowded and Delicious – This is a great lunch spot if you get there early. The lines are sometimes long and in the summer it's hard to get a table on the sidewalk outside, but wait and watch and you'll get one. The food is marvelous. Lots of flavor. Everything I've tried has been delicous. Don't miss the "hostess-like" cupcakes. Being on third, it's a little pricey, but it's worth it! Go for lunch around 11:30 to skip the crowds.

Look I like Joan's food the problem is – I like the food at Joan's the problem the stupid people who eat there. I find it hard to pay Joan's prices and have seating be "sort of" 1st come 1st served for seating. Outside waiting for a table can be like wating for a marathon to start. There seems to be no line, so people sort of jocky for a table they see getting ready to leave. Last time I was there I had a woman and man, who I was outside waiting for a table before push me out of the way so they could get to a table that they... read more

Place to see celebs – It's been a couple of years since I've been there, but whenever friends go, they always report back about seeing someone famous. Also, the food's definitely tasty, including the sandwiches and desserts, so I'd count it as one of those "must-do L.A. experiences."

Good food, small portions, pricey – My girlfriend and I went to Joan's for lunch today for the first time. She said it reminded her of a NY deli. I like the feel of the place when I walked in although it was a bit chaotic. We ordered a tuna salad and a BLT which came out to $20. The food was good, but the portions were incredibly small. The BLT was on simple plain white Wonder bread and the only sides with the sandwich were a few slices of pickles. I may go back and try their desserts next time, but probably wouldn't order f... read more

Gourmet Lunch – I love this place. Their catering menu is succulent. Pop in for a quick cafe latte and a gourmet sandwich. My favorite is the imported mortadella with goat cheese gouda. To die for. The sides are great. This place is always busy, but try and find a seat outside. Its a little pricey, but all the ingredients are incredible, so i can see why. Also don't be confused by the order on one side, pay at the other cashier routine they have.

Coconut cupcakes – Joan's has the best coconut cupcakes ever made. Made of dense vanilla cupcake with a rich coconut frosting. They're small but so rich that I can only eat 1/2. Also, excellent is the salami sandwich on crusty bread. The service couldn't be worse. You have to wait in 2 long lines, one to order, another to pay. The parking might as well be non-existent. And the staff is doing you a favor by letting you pay for their food. But the food is that good - worth the trouble.

I'm still hungry – The food here is pretty good, but the portions are insanely small. I got a ham and cheese sandwich for $9 and I was still very hungry after I ate it. I really felt ripped off. The place has two lines and I was lectured by the girl at the register because I ordered my sandwich at the same line where I bought my groceries. Note to Joans: no one likes standing in line, much less twice. Anyway, this place used to be a lot better a year ago. The pickles are still really good as are the rosemary crackers.
