Dr. Schwender is the kind of Dr. who will not operate on you if he knows he can't help to improve your life. This is a quality I fear is in very short supply in the medical world. Everybody is willing to "wait" until they can get into Dr. Schwender - and he is really worth the wait. I had a small bit of spine surgery done by him a little over a year ago and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself in my entire life. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Schwender and his personal ethics

Had one surgery. Something went wrong and had to have another one to fix it. Took about week to get me back in while I was in a lot of nerve pain. So two surgerys and still have same symptoms I came in for.

Dr. Schwender was a very good communicator. He answered all of my questions and provided me with explanations, pros and cons of several treatment options. He did not press for a particular treatment option simply provided me the options and asked for my opinion on which I felt was best for me.

I appreciate the fact that surgery wasn't his only option for me. He doesnt push surgery so i went the phys. Therapy route at first. Unfortunately my situation progressed rapidly and a year later I returned for a second consult. We scheduled surgery to fusethe L5 and S1 and insert a titanium disc. The surgery only took 70 minutes and both he and Dr Titus reported positive results. The entire experience has been wonderful. Abbot NW is a superb hospital. It's been a week and I'm doing great!
