Jak's Grill

About this business

Many Seattle visitors miss treasures in out-of-the-way West Seattle. Not least among these is this little steak house called Jak's Grill. Limited seating doesn't stop guests from putting their names on the waiting list. The decor is characterized by dark woods and dim lights. There are five top-grade steaks on the menu, from Filet Mignon to Porterhouse au Poivre. You will also find a selection of seafood, chicken and pork. A huge meal here should cost less than $20. There is also a bar in the back.

If you don't have the time don't go – If you are looking for a place to eat dinner in less than 2 hours this is not the right place to go. On a weeknight, 9pm at night, the wait was still 1 hour to get a table. The hostess advised it would only be 30 minutes, we had to wait about 20 just to get a seat at the tiny bar and then continued to wait another 40 minutes. I personally don't think the wait for a table was worth it for the food. Yes, it was a good steak but we could have driven a couple more miles and been seated and r... read more

Great restaurant – A wonderful place! Superb steaks and burgers, and the wait isn't a problem. Had to laugh at the person who said that they had to wait a couple of hours to be seated for a "family dinner"--and that they had a two-week-old baby with them. I'm never quite sure why people seem to think that other diners will be delighted to listen to their screaming children. Hopefully, the management at Jak's agrees... Kudos to a great restaurant!

Best steak ever! Better than the Met by far! – Sure it might be a little inconvient to get a table but whenever I need to sink my teeth into a juicey steak, JaK's is the only option. I just give them my phone number and head over to West 5 for apps & a cocktail. I would wait days for my table if I had to just to have one of JaK's filets.

very poor hosting – We should have read the reviews before going to Jak's for a family birthday dinner. As previously described the resturant does not take reservations and the seating is controlled by two very uninterested hostices. This is definaltely a "Local's place" who get preferencial seating. We were promised a table for six (plus a two week old baby) in two hours. We signed in at 6:45pm and were seated at 9:55pm! It was obvious that people who came in later were seated before us. The bar tender was wonderful and tri... read more

Poor Hosting – We have learned not to go to Jaks during peak times because of the long waits. On this occasion we arrived at the end of the dinner period and were informed of a 45 minute wait. We decided to wait, sure that the dinner rush was ending. After an hour wait we were ushered into a half empty restaurant and seated at a small table for two. I asked if we could have one of three empty booths that we passed, but no, they were needed for other people that never appeared. On the way out, I noticed that the waiting list ... read more

great, if you can get in... – Since 2000, I have tried to go to Jaks three times more than I have actually gotten in. Had to wait up to an hour for a party of 2 but always had good food & service. I'd go more often but don't want to give them any more of my time & money until they care more about "customer experience." Don't take reservations, that's ok but how do you have a 3 hour wait minutes after the doors open? Is there a private list? Are 3 hours worth of people in line before the doors open? Months ago, Jaks closed fo... read more

Melt in Your Mouth Steaks – If you want a melt-in-your-mouth-good steak, go to Jak's. My husband and I have only been 2-3 times, and have had no complaints at all. They do know how to grill a good steak.

Good Eats – I've always wanted to try Jak's Grill and finally got the chance last night. The service was great and the New York Strip was done just right. Our waitress was very courteous and her service was excellent. Now I know why there is quite a wait for a table in the evening! Jak's is a good place for steak.

stay out of West Seattle – for those of you who don't like the wait at JaK's then stay home, that will make it easier for those of us who live in West Seattle and love to eat here to get in. We even have a little secret for beating the crowd. We will drop by the restaurant on the way home from work and put our name on the list, then go home for a cocktail. They will call us about 10 minutes before our table is ready, leaving plenty of time to finish our drink and get to the restaurant.
