Jak's Grill

About this business

Many Seattle visitors miss treasures in out-of-the-way West Seattle. Not least among these is this little steak house called Jak's Grill. Limited seating doesn't stop guests from putting their names on the waiting list. The decor is characterized by dark woods and dim lights. There are five top-grade steaks on the menu, from Filet Mignon to Porterhouse au Poivre. You will also find a selection of seafood, chicken and pork. A huge meal here should cost less than $20. There is also a bar in the back.

H Wells – The porterhouse was a little overpriced but very tasty however the mashed potatoes were very bland..I have never had to add salt and pepper until here. As an "alternative lifestyler" I appreciate honest and fair treatment. I received that here on valentine's day. we were told to expect a 90 minute wait and were called after 30. We abandoned our drinks at another establishment and enjoyed our meal and the experience at Jak's Grill. I guess in comparison to downtown steakhouses Jak's comes up a little short in my boo... read more

check in early – Jak's grill IS the best steakhouse in seattle for your money. Because of this they seat on a first come first serve basis. In order to avoid the hour long wait for a table show up early to put your name on the list and bring your cellphone. While youre waiting go have some coffee and the hostess will call you when your table is ready. Brilliant no?

Seattle's Best – Forget The Met or Daniel's...this is the best steakhouse in Seattle. Large portions, cooked to perfection, and reasonably priced. It's well worth the wait.

Best Steak in Town – This was the best steak I've had in a long time and at a great price. I asked for it to be cooked rare and that is exactly what I got. I'll definately go back again. I'd also like to say that people shouldn't rate a place unless they've actually eaten there.

Wait, schmait.. great steaks – I'd just like to say to all the reviewers who based their rating strictly on the wait... WAH! Go someplace else, they probably don't want your "type-A" personality there anyway! Or as an alternative, go early, put in your name and take a walk around downtown W. Seattle for a while.. or grab a drink somewhere close by and leave them your cell #. They're usually pretty good about giving you a worst-case-scenario wait time so you won't be misled. Bottom line, Jak's offers what few steakhouses can ... read more

Maybe it's who you know... – I went to Jak's a couple a weeks ago because a friend said the food was great. Well, at "4pm" we were told it would be at least an hour maybe more wait. I've never been to a nice restaurant that didnt take reservations! Looking at the menu, I didnt see anything appealing anyway. Steak and more steak was about it. Needless to say we went down the road to Elliot Bay Brewery. NO wait and less surly hostess. I will never set foot in there again.

Wouldn't know – We've tried going there twice (once at the 5:00 opening time), but were told that the wait was 3 and a half hours and and hour and a half, respectively. I'm sure JaKs doesn't care about what I have to say, since they do great business, but we won't be going back. Come on, three and a half hours? How about reservations? I wasn't the only one upset. A guy was already busy yelling at the host about the egregious wait when we got there.

Why bother – Great place to eat if you like eating early, which I despise. Stooging around for 1-2 hours so I can eat after 6 pm is not worth it at any price or quality. It is a mystery to me why a reservation system could not be implemented. For us, the wait has become so aggravating that it is no longer worth the effort.

JAK'S grill is great – The steak was delicious, equal or better than the Metropolitan, yet half the price. The servers are friendly and attentive. I ever eaten at a better steak place that didn't take half a pay check to show a date a nice time. I am definitely going back again and again.
