This family owned upscale Northern Italian restaurant near Bloomingdale, has been a neighborhood staple since the 1950s. The décor and atmosphere is classic Italian, the service warm and gracious and the menu features old-fashioned favorites like Pasta e Fagioli, Cappellini Primavera and Rigatoni alla Vodka. Appetizers include clams and prosciutto with melon. The seafood, beef, chicken and veal entrees are all wonderful. A house specialty is the Trippa alla Calabrese (honeycomb tripe braised in a light tomato sauce).

It’s hard to say enough good things about this wonderful neighborhood standby. The sweetest hosts and servers, the best red sauce Italian food imaginable, just pure enveloping comfort, without a stitch of attitude. This is the old UES at its best.
