We waited 40 minutes today at lunch and when they finally brought the food it had hair on it!!! I will not be returning to Hokey Smokey nor recommending them!!!! Very disappointing!!!
We just there for dinner last night it was great. Loved the fried green tomatoes and the homemade collard greens. The BBQ pork was delicious.
Food was cold and has changed.Service was very slow (We were 15 minutes late to work and that has never happened at this restaurant before). I used to love eating here. I won’t be back.
(23-Oct-2018) Something has changed. We noticed new decor. Staff was also new. Mostly the food was not the same as we were accustomed too. My friends Brisket Sandwich was not Hokie-Smokie Brisket. It was not the nice slices of brisket that H-S usually serves, but a mangled mess of meat and fat with a bonus chicken corucoid bone. We’ve been coming from North Carolina to eat here for years. Today was the first time my wife and I were disappointed. Service was slow, portions have been drastically decreased though the price is the same. And the sides came served in cardboard containers which my collards effectively melted. To make it worse the normally amazing food came out cold. We were actually sad at losing one of our favorite travel places to eat.
The ribs were awesome. Cooked & seasoned perfectly. I prefer dry rub with a slightly sweet sauce on the side. Great sauce fried corn, wonderful cooked greens. The service couldn’t have been better. We didn’t want for anything except a to go box. I wanted this for lunch the next day.
I had the BBQ spud and it was good. My husband had the ribs, mashed potatoes and Irma, all the food was good.
Great place to eat. Next time I’m in Johnson city we will stop back in
