Why so snooty? – The type of food Houston's serves definitively does not give the right for the establishment to act self-absorbed. I don't think ribs, burgers, and chicken fingers deserve a snooty staff and a "Proper Attire Required" sign on the front door. The menu even goes as far to say: "Cellphone usage not permitted in the dining room." Although the food is good, the snooty service doesn't make it worth your while (and money). My friend and I felt rushed. Waiter did not ask for permission before removing plates from th... read more
Don't waste your money – Snooty hostess, poor selection on the menu, no complimentary bread, no ice in water, cannot phone in "to go" orders. Had the very thick pork chop. Did not like flavor. Strange selection of beer. Why is this place still in busines? After being seated and looking at the menu, my first impluse was to leave. I didn't, and I regret it. I will never go back. It is not the same Houston's that I visited regularly several years ago.
Horrible food was trumped by atrocious service – Absolutely horrible service. My server's name was Josh and he seemed like he cared nothing about me and my 4 friends that were dining. Our bill totaled over $300 so you'd think he might be willing to go the extra mile for us but I guess not. He was rude and non-responsive. After ordering filets Medium-rare all around we got nearly well done pieces of charred meat and sent them back. He seemed personally offended and annoyed. I will never, ever, ever go back to Houston's. Perha... read more
Roomy banquettes and hefty portions typify this polished American grill that's popular for business deals and special occasions. – In Short Burnished brass and stained wood complement roughly mortared brick and the occasional plant. Amid ubiquitous earth tones, corporate types and small parties (celebrating or simply living large) occupy deep booths done up in fine upholstery and lit from above by pin spotlights. Burgers, prime rib and steaks are the specialties of the house, but the menu also includes salmon, salads, pork c... read more
talented because they have to be – This place serves delicious burgers, chicken sandwiches, sides (in the fall, at least), and has the best veggie burger I've ever eaten. But they have to be good to get away with all the ways they try to make dining unpleasant. They won't take call-in orders. They won't take reservations. So basically, if you want the privilege of eating the food, you have to spend about an hour in the bar, even if you're willing to eat at home. Oy! And the waitstaff can be rude (althouh often, they're nice)... read more
Always Ask For The Price of a Special BEFORE You Order! – I couldn't believe it. My daughter and I went to Houston's on Westheimer for lunch. They had a crab cake special. My daughter order it. I had the veggie burger. When the bill came, it was $46.00. She had a Sprite to drink. I had water. Shocked, I looked at the bill to see the item prices. The crab cake was $29.00! For two crab cakes at LUNCH! I couldn't believe it. That was uncalled for. I will NEVER go there again. They have taken advantage of me for the last time. S... read more
Absolutely the most overrated restaurant in town!!!! – Ah I don't know what the other people had for dinner but apparently it was cooked there. The service was okay at best. I asked the server to describe the spinach dip her response " it's really good" duh really? I'm sorry but if going to spend money on a overpriced place I'll keep going to Pappas. The food was shoddy at best I thoug ht that I was dining at Luby's. The ribeye which was $29 was okay the swordfish which was also $29 was fresh out of the can and overcooked. N... read more
Unbending Customer Service – The food here is good. I have been 3 or 4 times. I have encountered 3 rules that have been a bit strange and they refuse to help a customer. What finally stopped me from going there was when I tried to meke a to go order. They do not take them over the phone. I spoke to a manager and he said that they are a dine-in only restaurant and are not set up to take to go orders (which doesn't really make sense) over the phone. I have never encounered this before and I order food on the phone a lot (my sp... read more
Great Food! But... – Really nice food and drink, the fries are simply unbeatable to my taste, and if you go there it is ABSOLUTLY NECESSARY TO HAVE THE CHICAGO STYLE SPINICH DIP!!!! I'm not a HUGE spinich fan but their spinich & cheese dip is to die for. ONe problem, like most good resturaunts in Houston you can expect a 30 min wait if you get there at 6 o'clock on a Friday evening, generally the earlier for dinner the shorter the wait, on any school/business night chances are its not goin to be very crowded. Great over all,... read more
