History Established in 1953. Heavner's was founded in 1953 when Chester and Stella Heavner moved here from Detroit, bringing six canoes with them. We now have over 200 kayaks and canoes to rent. The business is still owned and operated by Chester and Stella's son, Alan.

A very professional company. Organized, polite, and timely. They hauled my 2 personal kayaks back, even though I was told they no longer provided that service and I recieved a 10% veterans discount on the 4th of July for the 4 other kayaks rented for my family. Felt very respected. The river is much more interesting after the dam in Milford and worth the trip. Thank you Heavner for a great experience.

Leave your schedule and cell phones home or at least in the car. Unwind. Unplug and then go play! Never too old to learn a new way to enjoy life. Thank you for helping the "seniors" feel like a kid again. Tried something new, kayaking and trying out a number of varieties so we could make an informed choice and purchased retired models. Trying in a store and trying in the water, priceless experience. Thank you to everyone especially for not laughing and sharing experience and sage advice.

It was great except for people picnicking in the portage ar proud lake dam,wading in water and making it feel blocked off today
