History Established in 1953. Heavner's was founded in 1953 when Chester and Stella Heavner moved here from Detroit, bringing six canoes with them. We now have over 200 kayaks and canoes to rent. The business is still owned and operated by Chester and Stella's son, Alan.

Very disappointed with an experience we had yesterday. We called you at 10a to make sure you would be at Island Lake to rent to 2 Kayaks. You assured us someone would be there at our desired time of 1-2pm and that no reservation would be necessary. When we got there, the booth was empty and there was a piece of paper tacked to the booth saying: “Closed to to a large group event” and gave a number to call. So much fun! They helped me pick the right tandem kayak to rent for me and my toddler. They are really helpful about getting in and out of the water. The hourly rate is more reasonable when you rent for a longer stretch of time.
This experience is very nice, if you like outdoors.
Wonderful way to spend two hours of quality time with our daughters. Easy pace, weather was great, and you can swim at the Proud Lake Dam halfway through the trip.
It’s a super fun activity for all!!
