David and Hesh are great to work with. Top notch people.
I began building guitars over 5 years ago now. Very early on I noticed this Hesh fellow on a couple of lutherie forums, and how he always gave down-to-earth advice. Over the years I have had personal exchanges with him on tricky topics, and have benefitted immensely from comments from both Hesh and David, with nothing asked in return.
Every time I take new or old instruments to Ann Arbor guitars they come back playing like a dream. Dave and Hesh are terrific in every way. Wonderful, competent folks who are a pleasure to visit. They take time to explain technical aspects of stringed instruments, honestly tell you when repairs are inadvisable, and provide great advice. They care about people, the community, the country and the environment. And, I've never left the shop without enjoying a few good laughs. Oddly, I look forward to the next repair need!
The best shop in the region without any doubt, hands down. Nothing but great experiences with the proprietors.
I once accidentally let one rip while at the shop. No one said a word. Straight up gentlemen!
Thanks, Terri, for pointing this out to me. David Collins & Crew @ Ann Arbor Guitars are masters of detail. As a luthier, I would send anyone in their geographic area to Ann Arbor Guitars for instrument repair, without a second thought.
I have "known" Hesh for 7 years now, as a fellow member of a the Luthiers Forum. (Disclaimer: I am an amateur luthier and not a client). Duting that time, I have benefited from Hesh's generous and expert advice on a plethora of luthiery related topics. He is extremely well-respected by his peers, and is generous with his advice on the construction and repair of guitars. Were I geographically closer (I am in New York), Hesh would be the first place I would go if I had an issue at all with a guitar. Class act.
